To the editor: Does anyone really know what happened in Ferguson, Mo.? Even after an entire week of "news" coverage I certainly don't.

Tell your loved ones how you feel
To the editor: I recently celebrated my 83rd birthday. Besides the pleasure of having all of my immediate family with me, I was gifted in another exceptionally meaningful way.

Writer supports voter ID laws
To the Editor: Americans are required to show identification before we can drive a car, board a plane, open a bank account, donate blood, rent a hotel room, get a mortgage, buy a house, pick up a prescription, hold a rally, receive social security or Medicaid and purchase a cellphone, an M rated video game, some cold medicines, guns, alcohol, cigarettes, and nail polish at CVS! I've never heard any of these requirements called discrimination.

A rebuttal on the mine
To the Editor: Tom Tiffany's recent mocking of Mary Burke's stance on the mine requires rebuttal. Tiffany touts the mine as northern Wisconsin's economic salvation, but we are concerned it could just as easily become an environmental disaster.

Homeland insecurity
To the editor: Why is it that most politicians of both parties have no problem subsidizing the Iron Dome to protect Israel from enemy air attacks with billions of dollars in taxpayer money but claim they haven't the funds to build a fence to protect our southern border?

Training dogs on wolves is a bad idea
To the editor: It is unfortunate a wolf season was written without wildlife professionals, allowing hound dog packs to hunt wolves.

Setting the record straight
To the editor: Andy Loduha's guest editorial, "Don't buy the liberal spin," in last Saturday's paper clearly illustrates once again how out of touch Republicans are with the realities of ordinary people's lives.

Kudos to Gov. Walker
To the editor: I would like to thank Governor Walker for his recent visits to the Northwoods.

Reader responds to Sowinski series
To The Editor: By now Richard Moore must be running out of ideas for his continuing recollection of truth about the members of the Sowinski family who actually signed a plea deal last December, with quite severe consequences.

Who does Swearingen represent?
To the editor: This is a letter that questions who Rob Swearingen actually represents.

Property taxes due July 31
To the editor: The second installment of the 2013 Oneida County property tax bills is due by July 31, 2014. Due to limited parking and long waiting lines, mailing tax payments is recommended.

Another viewpoint on Driscoll Road project
To the editor: After reviewing the issues and concerns surrounding the 72-unit apartment complex, now approved by our City Council, I find that the issues identified in the River News articles of May 26, June 11, 18 and 25 are still concerns to the citizens of Driscoll Road and Rhinelander.

Highway department site a good one for Kwik Trip
To the editor: A few years ago, the Community Resource Agent at the University of Wisconsin Extension-Oneida County joined the Rhinelander city administrator and a Rhinelander alderman at a regional conference of the International Council of Shopping Centers.

To the Editor: Most of our governmental agencies could cease to exist and we would hardly notice because they seem to do nothing but take taxpayer dollars to support themselves.
