3/27/2012 7:30:00 AM Doesn't make sense to have two brothers as Oneida County judges
To the Editor:
Looking at the April 3 election for Oneida County Circuit Court Judge, the voters of Oneida County have to ask themselves whether we want two brothers to be serving as the two judges in a two-judge county.
John O'Melia appears to be a decent guy and an experienced lawyer, but his brother Patrick is already the other judge. John O'Melia is stating that his brother is going to be "conveying" his stock in O'Melia, Inc., so that there will be no conflict "technically." If that's what they're going to do, so be it. But Oneida County is still a two-judge county and it doesn't make sense to have two judges who were raised in the same household, went to the same college, went to the same law school and have been members of the same family-owned corporation for years.
Besides, Mike Bloom is better qualified to begin with. Mike Bloom has been in private practice and done civil law, but he also has experience in criminal law and is supported by law enforcement. Mike Bloom has been the district attorney for a number of years now and has a working knowledge of the courthouse and the court system and can step right in as judge. I'm voting for Mike Bloom and I urge you to do the same.
