Writers concerned over Newbold ATV/UTV routes
To the Editor:
The Town of Newbold will be holding a public hearing on Saturday April 7, 10 a.m. at the Newbold Town Hall, to hear comments about proposed ATV/UTV routes in Newbold Township.
Roads included in the proposed routes include, Pine Grove Road, Vets Memorial Drive, Flannery Lake Road, Velvet Lake Road and possibly parts of Lake Mildred Road. In addition, three short, dead-end roads, Fallen Wood Lane, Hook Lake Road, and Autumn Lane are included in the proposal.
These roads are inside the Whispering Pines subdivision. As residents of Autumn Lane or Hook Lake Road, we are writing to express strong concerns over the inclusion of these roads in the proposed trail route.
These smaller roads, about one half-mile in length each, are heavily used by walkers, joggers and bikers, including those walking with small children or pets.
We chose to purchase property on these roads because they are "no outlet" roads and vehicle traffic is minimal. Including these roads in an ATV/UTV trail is not compatible with current uses, and may produce safety, noise nuisance, and traffic congestion issues.
This is not an anti-ATV vs. pro-ATV issue. We are simply voicing our opinion that in the case of these smaller, dead-end roads ATV/UTV use is not appropriate. It is important for those with similar opinions to let the Town of Newbold Board of Supervisors know your thoughts through email and by attending the public meeting on April 7 at 10 a.m.
