5/18/2019 7:30:00 AM Treasurer's office recognizes Lottery and Gaming Credit Awareness Week
To the Editor:
The Oneida County Treasurer's office, in conjunction with the Wisconsin County Treasurers' Association, and supported by the Wisconsin Department of Revenue, declared the week of May 13 - May 17, 2019, as Lottery and Gaming Credit Awareness Week.
The lottery and gaming credit is a reduction on your real estate tax bill. To qualify for the lottery and gaming credit, the property owner must be a Wisconsin resident and use the dwelling as their primary residence as of the certification date of Jan. 1. If temporarily absent, typically for a period no longer than 6 months (hospital, vacation, etc.), it is the home to which the property owner returns. A property owner may claim only one primary residence [sec.79.10 (1) (dm), (9) (bm), Wis. Stats.]. Rental properties are not eligible for the lottery and gaming credit.
We are asking all eligible property owners to review their 2018 real estate tax bill to verify they received the lottery and gaming credit. Last year the average lottery and gaming credit in Oneida County was approximately $134. The amount of the credit is based upon the school district in which your home is located.
In order to receive the lottery and gaming credit, owners must have a signed application form on file with the County Treasurer. If you are an eligible property owner who did not receive the credit on your 2018 tax bill, the Treasurer's office can assist you in filing the 2018 Late Claim Form with the Department of Revenue.
If you were not a resident of your property on Jan. 1, 2018 but were as of Jan. 1, 2019, the Treasurer's Office will assist you in completing a Lottery and Gaming Credit Application to ensure that the credit will be applied to your 2019 property tax bill.
You may apply for the Late 2018 Lottery and Gaming Credit and the 2019 Lottery and Gaming Credit by visiting the county website at: www.co.oneida.wi.us and go to the Treasurer's Department.
