Reader has questions about letter of support

To the Editor:

A letter was presented March 11 by five city employees expressing a lack of confidence in the city administrator. Their signatures were very legible and their names and positions for the city have been published several times.

On April 4 there was a second letter expressing confidence in the administrator with 15 signatures, the vast majority illegible and their "positions" in the city not given.

If one types in: "Rhinelander employee group declares 'full confidence' in city administrator", one can find the letter, with signatures, on WJFW's website, as an attachment.

To quote from the April 4 letter "we do fear those who have spoken against him (city administrator Daniel Guild)."

The letter states (Guild) "continues to keep his employees informed and in the know." It is stated "signatures on this document have not come easily or lightly", that they are often "under an atmosphere of intimidation," are in "fear of retribution" and "fear those who have spoken against him".

I am amazed that these 15 are kept "in the know" while those who work at City Hall are not. The tension at City Hall is bad enough that one of the five has quit.

Over the years I have paid utility bills and real estate taxes at City Hall, and talked to those who work there, I have never felt any "fear". I find them extremely pleasant.

I was always taught if you believe in something strong enough, are committed to a cause, and are willing to put your signature on such a letter, you have an obligation to make sure people know exactly who you are and this should hold true in this case. Those 15 "scribbled" signatures need clarification along with what positions they hold.

Also, just curious as to whether the council members accused of being drunk, dishonest, harassing, defaming, and bullying, have ever been named?

Should not we, citizens/taxpayers, have the right to know if anyone who represents us and makes decisions that affect our city has acted in such a way? The reputations of City Council members have been "dirtied" with statements not backed by facts. This all has to come to an end even if everyone from the top down has to have professional counseling. What an incredible poor example is being played out before our youth.

Keep Rhinelander's streets safe.

Allowing ATVs on Rhinelander's city streets cause additional safety concerns for motorists, pedestrians, and bicyclists.

A speeding ATV rounding a busy city corner on two wheels and zooming down a city street was recently observed. An approaching motorist had to stop and wait until the ATV passed. There is not even an ordinance allowing ATVs on city streets.

Do not allow ATVs on city streets.
Please, keep Rhinelander's city streets for everyone.
