A thank you letter to Deputy Brian

To the Editor:

I want to commend a member of the Oneida County Sheriff's Department.

Deputy sheriff Brian, he didn't give me his last name, went above and beyond the call of duty for me on Wednesday, Nov. 27, 2019. My husband and I had been without power from around 4:30 a.m. that day. By 11 a.m. the temperature had dropped to 60.

We are elderly, 83 and 80, and both disabled and I had just brought my husband home from the hospital on Tuesday and had an outpatient surgical procedure done on myself. So, neither of us were in very good physical shape. I had a kerosene space heater in our back closet, but was unable to get it out and into the living room. I called 9-1-1 and explained the heat situation in our house and asked if they could direct me to someone to help with the heater. I was told that the shift leader would be getting off shortly and would stop by.

Deputy sheriff Brian drove 15 miles out of Rhinelander, after his shift, to my home. He got the heater from the back closet, set it up and made sure it was working properly so that there would be no carbon monoxide fumes. Then Brian shoveled the foot of heavy snow from my door to the gate so that my small dog could get outside to take care of his personal business.

Brian then asked if there was anything else he could do for us before he left. He told me to call the department if there was anything else we might need if the power was off for a much longer time. Deputy sheriff Brian was polite, concerned, helpful and a wonderful example of the quality of persons that we have in our Oneida County Sheriff's Department.

I can't thank Deputy Brian enough for his help. He is a very generous and caring person and a credit to the Oneida County Sheriff's Department.
