To the Editor:
The editorial of 26 March 2020, "Right now, a time for shared sacrifice," deserves comment. I agree the current pandemic is a crisis, and that in times of crisis, Americans have a tradition of uniting, with all citizens contributing and sacrificing.
Our current situation is changing daily, and advice may also need to change daily. It would be nearly impossible to create a stimulus bill that treats all people exactly fairly. Your editorial writer chose to point out one possible example, but, in his usual antagonistic manner, seems to pit the "public" sector against the "private" sector. This is a time when unity, shared contribution and shared sacrifice should be our goal.
None of us knows exactly what will transpire in the coming weeks and months, but how we behave may well have more impact than how we distribute stimulus money. Adherence to guidelines regarding social distancing and quarantines must be observed by all, regardless of income, age, or wealth.
