It's time to try something new
To the Editor:
For 10 years, Tom Tiffany has been front and center making decisions for those of us who live in the Northwoods. Because of his stated values, donations have poured in to assure a solid win to our state Senate in 2012 and 2016. Large figure sponsors include out-of-state Koch Bros PACs, mining and chemical conglomerates, $5.4 million from a super PAC that supports private schools. What did we get? Mr. Tiffany diverted $24,000,000 of school funding marked for our Northwoods schools into private, mostly Milwaukee voucher schools, he cut the number of scientists at the DNR, and he cast the deciding vote for a bill that protected lead paint manufacturers from paying damages for harm to children. He supported granting the Taiwanese electronics company Foxconn tax breaks of over $4 billion dollars that also included agreement to siphon 7,000,000 gallons of water every single day from Lake Michigan! He wrote the bill permitting Gogebic Taconite Mining to mine in a fragile ecological area close to Lake Superior and presently, Tom Tiffany is responsible for the Headwaters of the Wolf River/Schoepke sulfide mining project that is advancing through the permitting process right now? That mine will send toxic compounds into the Wolf River to be absorbed by the wild game fish, animals and birds, insects, frogs, crustaceans, and shellfish. And then, yes, we ingest those toxins when we eat those fish, animals and birds. Tricia Zunker is passionate about broadband availability for all Wisconsinites.
