What would they say? What would you say?
To the Editor:

What would the men who died on the Normandy beaches say about a Commander-in-Chief who would not immediately condemn Nazism in the United States?

Reader: Our capitalist way of life is working against us
To the Editor:

When it started, the idea was to improve and enhance the everyday life of Americans. Innovation was combined with quality products to make life easier.

Reader puzzled over hospital construction issue
To the Editor:

Why does Marshfield Clinic so desperately want to build a second hospital only minutes from an already existing one, to be a fifth hospital in an area that already has four hospitals within 30 to 90 min distance of each other?

My faith calls on me to stand with immigrant youth
To the Editor:

From the earliest days of my religious education as a Catholic and formation as a Holy Cross Sister, my faith has taught and called me to welcome the stranger, stand with the vulnerable, and love my neighbor.

Readers praise new-look downtown
To the Editor:

We drove through downtown Rhinelander a day or so ago and couldn't help but notice that almost all of the signs of the recent construction have left the scene. What an improvement in the visual appearance of the area.

Another opinion on the condition of Rhinelander streets
To the editor:

There have been a few opinion pieces recently that have been critical of the condition of the streets of Rhinelander. In my opinion, they must be looking for something to complain about. I have nothing but praise for the city for the quality and quantity of streets that are in excellent condition.

Reader shares PRAT experience
I've been reading reporter Jamie Taylor's informative work on Rhinelander's Premier Area Resort Tax with interest. I've had a personal experience with the PRAT tax that I think may be of interest to some of your readers.

Democrats and Republicans must unite
To the editor:

Democrats are united in their belief that health care is a basic human right. Americans should not die because they can't afford insurance.

Reader responds to letter about Dems bad month
To the Editor:

A recent letter by Mr. Gullan listed a litany of points he apparently believes show that the Democrats are having a bad month.

If you check his claims you find:

Reader shares experience with Habitat for Humanity
To the Editor:

It happened at a time in my life when I was searching for a positive and rewarding hobby to fill a creative void.

Readers salute Fourth of July parade organizers
To the editor:

Thank you to Dale Schlieve and the volunteers that helped organize a fantastic Fourth of July parade. Also, thanks to the sponsors, the participants and the spectators. It was another great Rhinelander event.

Letter writer frustrated by DNR red tape
To the editor:

Tony Chambers' letter on the red tape and layers of bureaucracy within the DNR is spot on. Like Tony was with bobcat, I was getting impatient on otter. The state knew they had issues and those issues were negatively impacting the resource.

Reader responds to poll question
To the editor:

In your recent poll, reported in the June 29 issue, 47 percent of the respondents said, "I am in favor of literally anything that isn't Obamacare".

Reader shares thoughts on city's road repair list
To the editor:

Today, I read with interest (and disbelief) the article regarding upcoming city road repairs. Again, it seems that drivers will have to endure the conditions on Kemp from Oneida to Wabash and Lincoln from Oneida to Evergreen.

Reader: Dems are having a bad month
To the editor,

It hasn't been a good month for the Socialist Democrats and the liberal "Fake News" media.

Second property tax installment due July 31
To the editor:

The second installment of the 2016 Oneida County property tax bills is due by July 31, 2017. Due to limited parking and long waiting lines, mailing tax payments is recommended.

More middle managers and red tape coming from DNR
To the editor:

Six weeks ago, I wrote a letter that implored the Joint Finance Committee to help both the DNR and the hunting public by reducing the red tape and excessive layers of supervision. I gave an example of how it took over two and a half years for a bobcat experiment idea to work through the layers of bureaucracy in a top-heavy and bloated agency.

Speakers highlight Lincoln Reagan picnic
To the Editor:

The Vilas County Republicans hosted a Lincoln Reagan picnic on June 25 at the Kula Ranch, home to Butch and Kim Simac. Despite the rain, we stayed dry in the big tent and approximately 60 people heard our guest speakers explain actual experiences that continue to massively mold their lives today.

Tiffany wrong on climate change
To the Editor:

From today's newspapers: Tom Tiffany doesn't accept the findings of 97 percent of working climate scientists that the climate is changing rapidly in large part because of human-caused pollution. "It's theoretical," Tiffany said. "It's based on models that have not been proven." The only conclusion one can take from such comments is that his lust for power and money has affected his brain. Tragically, such climate-change denial will destroy Wisconsin, indeed our entire planet.

The real threat
To the editor:

More double-speak from the Republicans!

Claiming [in the June 20 paper] that we're under threat from the "administrative state," legislators are trying to destroy as many as possible of our hard-earned protections and to concentrate even more power in a few people in Madison.

Rules and regulations exist primarily because legislators can't and won't pass laws with enough detail to cover every situation and be enforceable by state agencies.

Proposed VA cuts target disabled, elderly vets
To the Editor:

We now know what some feared.

Just before this past Memorial Day, as part of Donald Trump's first budget, the Secretary of Veterans Affairs, David Shulkin, announced the expansion of the Veterans Choice Program allowing veterans, in certain situations, to be seen by private doctors.
