Reader endorses Roskoskey for school board
To the Editor:

I've had the pleasure of knowing Ben Roskoskey for the past few years and can assure you he is the right choice for the school board of Rhinelander, based on my experiences with him in the past. He is patient and relatable, dependable and responsible. He has a strong background with public education, as his mother was teacher in his home state of Michigan. He has also made the admirable choice to serve in the National Guard.

Reader applauds Baldwin for fighting proposed Great Lakes Restoration Initiative cuts
To the Editor:

Like many other states, Wisconsin depends on the health of the Great Lakes for its economic, recreational, and cultural well-being. The Great Lakes Restoration Initiative (GLRI) is a multi-state program that is vital to the continued integrity and vitality of our Great Lakes.

Writer challenges liberal idealogy regarding LGBT anti-discrimination laws
To the Editor:

On March 7, the Alliance Defending Freedom filed a lawsuit against city officials in Madison and against Wisconsin state officials on behalf of a Madison photographer who does not want to cater to the weddings of heterophobic homosexuals because doing so would make her violate her beliefs.

Trump Healthcare benefits the wealthy and young
To the editor:

Donald Trump promised Rural America he would repeal and replace Obamacare with something "terrific." He kept his promise.

Howard Young board member opposes Marshfield Clinic's plan for new Minocqua facility
To the Editor:

I have been a resident of the Northwoods since 1974. During that time, I served as a lay professional at Ascension Lutheran in Minocqua and as pastor of Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Eagle River.

Reader weary of TrumpCare plan
To the Editor:

Candidate Donald Trump promised to repeal the Affordable Care Act and replace it with "something terrific." The plan has now been released, and the only one using that adjective is Paul Ryan.

Reader backs Holtz's platform for state superintendent
To the editor:

We have become so accustomed to partisan elections and being bombarded with nauseating TV ads. Well, we have another election on Tuesday, April 4. It is the "silent" Wisconsin Spring Election with non-partisan candidates on your ballot.

The truth about town halls
To the editor:

I recently saw an article that shows that 24 of the top 28 members of Congress who hold town hall meetings are Republican. And to no surprise, who's right there near the top of the list?

Reader questions Republican's rush to push through AHCA
To the editor:

The House Republicans, under Representative Paul Ryan's leadership, are attempting to quickly push their bill, the American Health Care Act (AHCA) through committees and Congress to repeal and replace the Affordable Care Act before the Congressional Budget Office had a chance to analyze the bill's projected effect on consumers, healthcare providers, insurance companies, and the federal budget.

Reader says health care bill will harm Medicare
To the editor:

President Trump has promised repeatedly not to harm Medicare or Social Security. By supporting the current healthcare bill going through Congress, he is violating that pledge.

Reader challenges Duffy's assertions on Planned Parenthood
To the Editor:

I recently received a letter from Rep. Sean Duffy concerning Planned Parenthood. Unfortunately it continues his false statements concerning the issue.

Reader backs Holtz in state superintendent race
To the editor:

I'm voting for Dr. Lowell Holtz on April 4 for State Superintendent of Public Instruction.

Dr. Holtz opposes Common Core.

Reader urges Congress to call Trump's bet
To the Editor:

It has been a surprise to me that people in the Trump administration seldom use analogies, similes or metaphors to make their points. Everything has to be straight forward. When someone suggested that the Trump cabinet "put a fox in every chicken house," I imagine the Trump people would have responded that the government does not run a zoo, and issues relative to chickens should be addressed (we think) by the Department of Agriculture.

Reader: Legislators let the Northwoods down
Dear Senator Tiffany and Assemblyman Swearingen:

While attending the Oneida County Zoning Board meeting last night (Feb. 27) it came to my attention that Wisconsin Bill 55 in 2015 "prohibits a county shoreland zoning ordinance from...imposing more restrictive shoreline zoning than those established by the DNR..." which according to NR 115.05 on page 145 "Lots not served by public sanitary sewer shall have a minimum average width of 100 feet..."

Thus you have voided the single most effective means that our zoning board had to control the pollution of our sacred lakes in the Northwoods. Shame on you for allowing this to happen.

Reader: Trump should pay his fair share
To the Editor:

Little or no taxes paid by President Trump,

Billionaires with loopholes and lawyers in a lump.

Trump and friends say they're too smart to pay taxes.

Reader: Trump-Russia connection is clear
To the editor:

The truth is hiding in plain view. Trump had a Machiavellian as well as a financial interest in ending U.S. sanctions on Russia. Putin had a deep economic motive in cultivating Trump.

The view from the park
To the editor,

We decided that for a some fun we'd take our little ones to the new park in Minocqua. It was a bit of a drive but there wasn't an appropriate park for them in our area. When we got there, we were disappointed to find we were the only ones there ... no playmates for JuJu, Carlee and Charlie.

Reader disappointed with dog park decision
To the editor:

When did Pioneer Park become a private park? I thought it was a public park all these years!

Reader: Duffy wrong on Planned Parenthood
To the editor:

When I was a child, great emphasis was placed on being honest and I had a few stern reprimands when I failed to do so. My mom said: "Just because you said it, doesn't make it so"

Legislators are allowing big corporations to exploit natural resources
Let me begin with two phrases: "water is precious for all life" and "Wisconsin is open for business." The first is a fundamental truth.
