Senator Tiffany's e-update arrived on Dec. 23 with the usual pleasantries, announcements and pictures.

Wisconsin: Forward or backward?
To the editor:

It's a new year - time to evaluate events from the last several years. As I ponder the direction our state is moving, I am disturbed.

Reader sounds off on gas prices
To the editor:

The "Gas Watch" on the front page of the newspaper is a real "sore spot" for me.

Hindman responds to student's letter
To the editor:

Hello Rhinelander

Mr. Millot, you wrote a nice response. I respect your letter using nice words and good feelings about your school and staff but obviously my letter was not ridiculous and or insulting. Don't attack the messenger, help fix the problems.

Poll workers want county clerk to apologize to Stella clerk
To the Editor:

We are poll workers for the town of Stella. We worked the presidential election and (Stella clerk) Amy (Zdroik) did an excellent job. She held several training sessions, set up and tested the machines. She did an excellent job setting up the poll books.

Treasurer shares information on tax bills
To the editor:

Oneida County taxpayers should have received their 2016 tax bills. If you did not receive your tax bill, you should contact the county or your local treasurer.

Tis the season
To the editor:

Tis the season to share the greatest gift of all. One that is everlasting and it's one that rejects a price tag.

Reflections on observing the recount
To the editor:

Reflections after several days spent observing the election recount here in Oneida County:

I was impressed with the thoroughness and dedication of the clerks and other workers. Retiring county clerk Mary Bartelt got to go out in style, with a very well-run effort.

Response to "Rhinelander Fans"
To the editor:

I would like to start by expressing that Ms. Hindman's comments were ridiculous and insulting, and that they didn't go unnoticed.

Local organization still looking out for animals

"We can judge the heart of a man by his treatment of animals." - Immanuel Kant.

More like a sinking Titanic taking parks down, too
To the editor:

A recent comment in the paper compared funding the golf course to the Titanic. Very true and it's already going down and apparently has been for some time to the tune of more than a million dollars of taxpayer money. Money that will not be paid back.

Open houses offer glimpse into Rhinelander's past
To the editor:

If you weren't able to make it to the open houses last weekend at the Rhinelander Historical Society Museum on Pelham Street and the Railroad Museum in Pioneer Park, you missed seeing two excellent examples of why we can be proud to live in Hodagland.

Reader supports Standing Rock concert
To the editor:

I am writing to support the Rhinelander school board's decision to allow the Paco Fralick/Scott Kirby concert to benefit "Honor the Earth." The state of Wisconsin has been a leader in conservation of our natural resources and it is only fitting we would support a group trying to maintain clean water.

GOP moves from 'Party of Lincoln' to 'Lying Donald'
To the editor:

As Gerald Ford once infamously said, "If Lincoln were alive today, he'd be turning in his grave."

A billionaire's scam
To the editor:

On Nov. 8, Rural America spoke, saying Donald Trump was the man they believed would make our lives better. In Wisconsin, poverty is at a 30-year all-time high and a better life is what Rural America needs and deserves.

Trump and Obamacare
To the editor:

Well it's already begun. Republicans made countless attempts to repeal Obamacare when they knew they couldn't succeed. A number of Republicans in both the House and Senate rode to election or re-election on the wings of repealing a "fraudulent" program.
