Reader supports Supervisor Mott
To the Editor:

I saw Supervisor Mott's and Supervisor Holewinski's interview with Channel 12 WJFW Wednesday night online and have read the articles in the newspapers. I wholeheartedly support Bob Mott's stance.

Reader laments Gilman's resignation
To the Editor:

It is with a heavy heart to hear of Tony Gilman's resignation. The city of Rhinelander is losing a great asset.

Reader is tired of bumps in the road
To the Editor:

I was traveling on Stevens Street yesterday and I came across something that was very unusual. I got to Frederick Street and there was an actual sign that warned me of a "BUMP" in the road. I thought to myself, "Gee, what a novel idea... warning drivers of an upcoming bump so they could slow down a bit to save their teeth and also their tires and shock absorbers."

A plea to our state legislature: Fund solutions to deal with direct caregiver crisis
To the Editor:

Wisconsin is in a workforce shortage crisis. Last year a report was released "The Long-Term Care Workforce Crisis: A 2016 Report." This report was the largest survey of Wisconsin's long-term care providers in state history.

Defining patriotism
To the Editor:

We all like to think of ourselves as patriots, but what does patriotism mean? The dictionary tells us it is love of and loyalty to one's country, but what does that entail?

Theater patron offers kudos to Nicolet Players
To the Editor:

Over Mother's Day weekend, three generations of our family, headed by our 80-year-old Mom, were treated to a production of "Arsenic and Old Lace" at the beautifully renovated Nicolet College theater in Rhinelander. The Nicolet Players set a new standard with their remarkable production of this perennial favorite. Bravo!

Reader appalled by Trump's disclosure of classified information to Russians
To the Editor:

The latest actions by our current president are appalling. Releasing classified information given by our allies in the fight against terrorism, potentially exposing our sources and at the very least making them unwilling to ever share information with the United States in the future, is treasonous.

Reader wants less red tape in the DNR
To the Editor:

I appreciate Laurie Groskopf's letter regarding inefficiencies at DNR. I am hopeful that the Joint Finance Committee will help DNR, and the Northwoods, by eliminating bureaucracy within DNR.

Reader defends museum volunteers
To the editor:

I would like to respond to the article in the River News and the Star Journal about the PPHC (Pioneer Park Historical Complex).

Have you had enough?
To the Editor:

Have you had enough?

Each time I ask myself that question of myself prior to an election I feel that I'm standing on common and shared ground with many others. I feel that I have been presented with enough evidence from inquiring minds that would fire a guilty elected official. I feel that the jury members have all seen the same evidence.

Reader decries cycle of violence
Each time there is a tragedy, such as the recent shootings in Wausau, we hear that it is "time to heal and move on" or some version of that sentiment.

Reader weighs in on judge recusal issue
Last week your paper had an article laying out the pros and cons of a proposed rule requiring judges to recuse themselves from deciding cases involving large donors to their campaigns.

Increasing efficiency in the DNR
With Joint Finance considering the state budget this week, what efficiencies have been implemented within the Wisconsin DNR? The DNR has been working for months on a redesign of duties. In the last budgets, funding was seriously cut. It would seem efficiencies and cuts in middle and upper management would have resulted from these changes.

Trump fails his voters
To the editor:

During my run for Congress, voters in the 7th Congressional District told me why they planned to vote for Donald Trump - jobs. If we were to believe Trump's tweets, we might think he was making good on his promise. But, 100 days into his presidency, facts show President Trump's job creation plan is failing.

Tiffany on the wrong side on forestry mill tax
To the Editor:

Governor Walker's 2017-2019 budget ends the Forestry Mill Tax (FMT) and instead funds forestry efforts with $181 million it generates from General Purpose Revenue (GPR). State Sen. Tom Tiffany, who represents the 12th District, is in favor of this proposal.

Reader offers a prediction about Trump's border wall
To the Editor:

Now that the health care law issue is past, President Trump can concentrate on other projects such as the Mexican border wall. This will be done according to Trump business procedures, and the President will personally manage the project.

Reader impressed with community support of child abuse victim
To the editor:

I want to say I was very impressed and thankful to the people who came together for the candlelight vigil for baby Avery Edwards last Friday, April 21. Seeing the BACA (Bikers Against Chid Abuse) group from Merrill was wonderful. This national organization is ready to provide aid, comfort, safety and support for children.

Most of these people did not know baby Avery but they do know that child abuse is an insult to our community and society.

Reader disgusted by littering
To the Editor:

As Earth Day approaches on April 22 I find myself amazed at the lack of respect some people have for our one and only planet. There are many things we have limited control over regarding how our actions effect the health of the earth, and then there are some things we absolutely can control!
