Reader offers reaction to conclusion of city investigations
To the editor:

Did I read correctly in the Saturday, July 27 River News that the complaints by city employees, which included: failure to be at work; failure to communicate; canceling/being tardy for/or scheduling meetings off regular hours; being instructed to not communicate with elected officials; were found to be just "accusations"? Why we might lack a workforce
To the Editor:

While in college in 1973, during an economics class when Roe vs. Wade was passed, I remember the Economics professor made this statement: "Just wait 30, 40 or 50 years from now and see what this will do to our workforce." (subscriber access)

Wolf tracking summary analysis
To the Editor:

In early summer, the Wisconsin DNR released a minimum overwinter count of wolves in Wisconsin. The wolf count was determined to be 914 - 978, and can be found by typing "wolf" into the subject line on the DNR home page and clicking on "2018-2019 wolf count brief" on the wolf page.

For the animals
To the Editor:

It's that time of year again! Budget time when the Oneida County Humane Society (OCHS) asks for dollars from the City of Rhinelander and Oneida County in exchange for animal control services. Our annual operating budget is in excess of $230,000. (subscriber access)

Kudos to the contributors
To the Editor:

Once again the beauty of our downtown is greatly enhanced by the additon of the hanging flower baskets. It required the efforts of many to produce these beautiful baskets, but without the monetary contributions of many people, organizations and businesses, it could not happen. (subscriber access)

The second installment of the 2018 Oneida County property tax bills is due by July 31, 2019. Due to limited parking and long waiting lines, mailing tax payments is recommended.

Reader sounds off on wolf 'fear-mongering'
To the Editor: It looks like the anti-wolf crowd was out in force at the latest meeting of our Natural Resources Board, spouting the same tired misinformation and fear-mongering they usually do about the effect wolves have on our deer population (NRB hears wolf woes from the Northwoods, Oct. 7).

Ever thought of serving on a school board or in local government - town or city or at the county level? The spring election for these levels of public office will take place April 3, 2018 with a spring primary, if needed, on Feb. 20, 2018.

Decoding 'double-speak'
To the Editor: "Double-speak" is using words as if they mean the opposite of their true meaning. Your Sept. 28 issue was so filled with it that I feel compelled to comment.

Get money out of politics
To the Editor: A year and one month before an election the attack ads begin. Supposedly, Tammy Baldwin is against tax reform. The ad almost appears sane when one pays no attention or does not think critically when watching it.

It could be you
To the Editor: Your son and daughter went to Hodag Country Festival to listen to some great music and have fun. When the police appeared at your door, you figured they'd been picked up for DUI or maybe had been in an accident.
