Eleven years
I am a high school climate activist in Ashland, and was the lead organizer of the Climate Strike there on Sept. 20. The following Letter to the Editor (titled "Eleven Years") answers the questions of why and how people should fight the climate crisis. Please consider it for publication.

Kudos to State Senator Andre Jacque and Representative Janel Brandtjen for sponsoring the Human Dignity Bill which aims to stop the sale, trafficking and experimentation of the body parts of aborted children. (subscriber access)

One of the most remarkable and uplifting developments in the climate movement is the recent upsurge of activism by youth around the world.

Reader shares 'political education'
To the Editor:

Prior to this Trump presidency I was politically ignorant. Law enforcement was rigid on a position of neutrality. So on Election Day a portion of my vote was based on a lucky chance. Since I have retired, Trump has greatly contributed to my political education.

Reader responds to editorial on gun violence
To the Editor:

It was good to see you taking responsibility (Our View: Reducing mass violence) for the mess we are in by saying "We have a mental health problem".

'Not a shred of evidence'
To the Editor:

Recently, in a lengthy opinion piece, Gregg Walker and Richard Moore assured us that there is "not a shred of evidence" to support the idea that we are in a climate crisis. It's all just a "hoax." (subscriber access)

Reader shares thoughts on Oneida County AIS coordinator position
Our family has owned lakefront property in Oneida County for nearly 65 years. It has been a summer home, a permanent residence, and now once again is a summer home. I am one of the 75 percent of non-resident lake property owners.

Reader believes downtown sidewalks are too cluttered
I recently walked downtown and was surprised that the downtown Brown Street sidewalk was cluttered with clothing racks, bulletin boards, tables, chairs and flower planters.

Reader offers thoughts on tactical firearms
To the Editor:

I have been in the military, on rifle teams, carried enforcement credentials, a lifetime hunter and owner of guns, and as a civilian could get along well with single shot firearms (admittedly, I do own some repeaters). (subscriber access)

I recently attended an Oneida County Board of Adjustment meeting where the board unanimously upheld the county supervisors' prior approval of an industrial gravel pit expansion in downtown Hazelhurst.

Reader sounds off on wolf 'fear-mongering'
To the Editor: It looks like the anti-wolf crowd was out in force at the latest meeting of our Natural Resources Board, spouting the same tired misinformation and fear-mongering they usually do about the effect wolves have on our deer population (NRB hears wolf woes from the Northwoods, Oct. 7).

To the Editor:

Do you know anyone who is working, or has worked, at a job they didn't like because their medical benefits were tied to their job?

LWVNOW director calls for local non-partisan candidates
To the Editor:

Ever thought of serving on a school board or in local government - town or city or at the county level? The spring election for these levels of public office will take place April 3, 2018 with a spring primary, if needed, on Feb. 20, 2018.

Decoding 'double-speak'
To the Editor: "Double-speak" is using words as if they mean the opposite of their true meaning. Your Sept. 28 issue was so filled with it that I feel compelled to comment.

Get money out of politics
To the Editor: A year and one month before an election the attack ads begin. Supposedly, Tammy Baldwin is against tax reform. The ad almost appears sane when one pays no attention or does not think critically when watching it.
