To the editor:
Did I read correctly in the Saturday, July 27 River News that the complaints by city employees, which included: failure to be at work; failure to communicate; canceling/being tardy for/or scheduling meetings off regular hours; being instructed to not communicate with elected officials; were found to be just "accusations"?
That these "accusations" were made just because those employees are uncomfortable with the "style" of the new administrator; are making conclusions based on rumor and innuendo; are taking sides; do not follow or respect any chain of command; and lack civility?
How dare such statements be made about those who work at City Hall, who, in all the years I have lived here, I have never found to be anything but friendly, polite, helpful!
They had to have felt there was a definite need to send the letter.
And what a coincidence that just over a year ago there was a performance review in Weston with similar complaints about the same person: tardy, unavailable, disagreeable, not handling criticism. Sounds very much like the complaints from our city employees.
Could it possibly be that someone's "style" is the problem? Someone who does not have "regular" office hours, works online "away" from the office, spends time in City Hall late in the evenings. Maybe, just maybe if that person was available and visible during "regular" hours they would get to know the staff and vice versa and all would improve. Why would one spend $13,000 to update an office and then not spend the majority of the workday there?
Our City Hall employees, who signed that letter, are owed an apology,

Seems like the questionable actions and mysteries surrounding the city of Rhinelander’s government just keep going and going and going. Hopefully someday everything will be better and running smoothly.
