Janis Marie DeBrock
Janis Marie DeBrock passed away on Sept. 14, 2017, in the loving arms of her husband, after a 12-month battle with glioblastoma brain cancer. She was also a 9-year survivor of ovarian cancer.
Janis was born in South Bend, Ind. to the late Bernard and Colette (Bouche) Konkol on April 21, 1952. The family moved to Wisconsin Rapids in 1962 and she was in the graduation class of 1970. In 1971, she moved to Rhinelander where she worked with the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources and Oneida County Social Services.
She wed her husband, Michael, in 1981 and they moved to Green Bay in 1988, where she worked at UW-Green Bay and the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources. In 2000, they moved to Eau Claire where she worked with the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources, Wisconsin Department of Corrections and Wisconsin Workforce Development until retirement in 2008.
Janis was an avid reader. She loved gardening, baking, sewing and watching her hummingbird feeders. She enjoyed watching the Green Bay Packers and her nature shows (National Geographic, Nature, and Nova). She and her husband treasured traveling to many Caribbean locations during the winter months.
She is survived by her loving husband, Michael; sisters, Jackie Doyen, Carol Deranek, Diane Konkol, Elaine Chant, Julie (Tom) Tierman, Annette (Tim) Peterson and Cheryl Konkol; brothers, Steven Konkol, James Konkol and Paul (Darlene) Konkol; as well as many nieces, nephews, other family members and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, John and Brian Konkol; and sisters, Lori Lenz and Susan Gehrt.
Cremation will be followed by a private memorial. Evergreen Funeral Home and Crematory in Eau Claire is serving the family.
