Douglas "Buzz" J. Mackett

Douglas "Buzz" J. Mackett, age 85, of Land O' Lakes, passed away Friday, Oct. 13, 2017 at St. Clare's Hospital in Weston. Douglas was born in Milwaukee on Friday, Aug. 19, 1932, the son of Joseph and Agnes (Prekup) Mackett. He was a graduate of Messmer High School where Douglas was the class president. He attended the University of Wisconsin Milwaukee, for one year. Doug proudly served his country in the United States Army where he was stationed in Germany. He was an accomplished musician playing the clarinet and the alto and soprano saxophone. He had his own band in high school and played professionally in the Milwaukee area with various bands. He was employed at Allis Chalmers as an engineer in the research department. He then was employed at Quad Graphics for eight years in research and development testing printers. He retired in 1997. In 2002 he and Sally moved to Moon Lake, in Watersmeet, Mich. Douglas had a love of music, he and Sally enjoyed attending performances at the Milwaukee Repertory Theater, traveling to Costa Rica and Key West, Florida.

Doug enjoyed fishing, woodworking, and had a love for cooking. Douglas will be forever remembered for the love to his daughters and grandchildren and tookgreat pride in their accomplishments. Surviving is his wife Sally Thomsen of Land O' Lakes; daughters; Maureen (Craig) Garvaglia of Niagara, Wis., Darlene; one son Michael; two grandchildren Alex Garvaglia and Megan Garvaglia, and one sister; Pat (Ron) Heinritz of Theinsville. He was preceded in death by his parents and by one sister, Joyce. A Celebration of Doug's Life will take place on Tuesday, Oct. 31, 2017 at 1 p.m. at the Hildebrand Funeral Home, Rhinelander with Fr. Patrick McConnell officiating. Memorial contributions in honor of Douglas may be given to the American Cancer Society. Hildebrand Funeral Home & Cremation Specialists, 24 E.
