Dale Louis Gardner

Dale Louis Gardner, age 80, of Rhinelander, died Wednesday, July 25, 2018 in Tomahawk. He was born on Friday, March 18, 1938 in Rhinelander to Louis and Mathilda (Schmidt) Gardner. He was born and raised in Rhinelander graduating from RHS in 1956. He was employed by the Wisconsin DOT for over 30 years as a highway surveyor. He married the former Sallie Parent on Nov. 19, 1960 and she preceded him in death on Oct. 14, 1998.

Dale loved all Wisconsin sports; Hodags, Badgers, Brewers, Bucks and the Packers. He enjoyed playing golf and also first base in the old fastpitch softball leagues. The amazing thing was that Dale was missing his left hand and yet participated at the highest level of fastpitch.

After the death of his wife, Dale found enjoyment by taking numerous bus trips to Dolly Wood and Branson. Above all else, he enjoyed being with his grandkids.

Dale is survived by his daughters Teri (Brian) Haenel, Lisa (Richard) Vanney and Marcy (Freddy) Robinson; his grandkids Mark (Sara) Haenel, Brandon (Trudi) Haenel, Molly Hanson, Andrew Gardner, Ashley Gardner, James Robinson, Nathan Frahm, Ryan Frahm and Brooke Frahm; his great-grandkids Ben, Lilly, Lucas, Sam, Gwen, Lilli and Bentley; his sister Janet (Bill) Jolin, his brother Kenneth (Sandy) Gardner, nieces, nephews, other family and many friends. In addition to his wife he was also preceded in death by his parents, a sister Barbara Weeks and his brother Robert Gardner.

Funeral services for Dale will be held on Friday, Aug. 3, 2018 at noon, with visitation from 10 a.m. until just prior to the services, all at the Carlson Funeral Home. Chaplain John Uhlarik will officiate. Interment will follow in the Newbold Cemetery. You may leave your private condolences for the Gardner family at www.carlsonfh.com. The Carlson Funeral Home (715-369-1414) is serving the Gardner family.
