Donald H. Randolph
Donald H. Randolph, age 87 of Rhinelander, passed away Tuesday, Aug. 7, 2018, at Rennes Health and Rehab. He was born Nov. 12, 1930, in Elroy, to Harold and Martha (Subera) Randolph.
Don graduated from Elroy High School in 1948. Following graduation, he served in the U.S. Army Company M 30th Infantry Regiment 3rd Army. After his honorable discharge, he continued to serve in the Army Reserve Service Battery 909th Field Artillery Battalion of the Wisconsin 84 Infantry Division.
Don married Virginia Schneider on Dec. 5, 1953, in Hillsboro, and they enjoyed over 64 years together.
Don was employed by the State of Wisconsin as a prison guard at the Waupun Correctional Facility and later as a pre-release supervisor. Don and Virginia moved to Wausau with their son, John, where Don continued his career with the state as a Petroleum Inspector. The family moved to Rhinelander in 1978 and Don retired in 1993.
Among his interests, Don enjoyed hunting, fishing, travel, and bowling with Virginia in couples leagues for many years where they made many wonderful friends.
One of Don's greatest joys was his grandchildren and following their various activities. He was a faithful member of Trinity Ev. Lutheran Church where he served on the church council and board of resources.
Don is survived by his wife, Virginia Randolph of Rhinelander; his son, John Randolph of Savage, Minn.; three grandchildren, Emma, Zachary, and Grace; two brothers, David (Klee) Randolph of Marshall, Wis. and James (Joan) Randolph of Oconomowoc; as well as other family and friends.
The memorial service for Don will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 11, 2018, at Trinity Ev. Lutheran Church in Rhinelander with Rev. Nancy Richmond officiating. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until the time of service on Saturday at the church. Inurnment will take place at a later date in the Mount Vernon Cemetery in Hillsboro. Carlson Funeral Home (715-369-1414 / www.carlsonfh.com) is assisting the family.
