Donna M. Steckbauer

Donna M. Steckbauer, age 76 of Harshaw, passed away Sunday, Aug. 12, 2018 at home surrounded by her loving family. Donna was born Nov. 13, 1941, in Shawano, the daughter of Gerald and Ethel (Stone) Fermanich. Her family lived in Matoon and she was a 1960 graduate of Matoon High School. While attending school she met Peter Steckbauer. The couple became high school sweethearts and on Aug. 6, 1960 at Holy Family Catholic Church in Matoon, the couple were married. They moved to Harshaw and have lived on Oneida Lake. Donna was employed at Lelah Starks Seed Farm for 20 years. She was a member of Nativity of Our Lord Catholic Church and the Harshaw Homemakers. Donna enjoyed taking care of her flower and vegetable gardens. She also enjoyed canning, snowmobiling, shopping with her dear friends, helping with the making of maple syrup and family parties and special events. But most of all, Donna loved her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and took great pride in all of their accomplishments. Surviving is her loving husband, Peter; children, Joanne Kilawee, of Plymouth, Michael Steckbauer of Harshaw, Connie (Jonathon) Holcomb of Plymouth, Jeffrey Steckbauer of Princeton; five grandchildren: Amber Kilawee, Chad (Krissy) Kilawee, Andrea Zetter (Nick Morrison), Maja Holcomb, Shane Holcomb and eight great-grandchildren: Adrian, Dorian, Ana, Nico, Evelyn, Ella, Natalie and Lillian. Also surviving are five brothers: Jim (Judy), Don (Kathy), Bob, Joe (Kathy) and John (Debbie) Fermanich, six sisters: Kass Fermanich, Mary (Tom) Lombardo, Betty Stephanie, Theresa Strassburg, Karen Fermanich, Gerri Fermanich and Carol (Rick) Mattmiller. Donna is further survived by her mother-in-law, Agnes Steckbauer and by nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Wesley Fermanich, brother-in-law Roy Stephanie and by her father-in-law Ambrose Steckbauer.

The visitation for Donna will be held on Saturday, Aug. 18, 2018 from 10 a.m. until the 1 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial at Nativity of Our Lord Catholic Church located at the corner of King and Conro Street.

Fr. Michael Tupa will be officiating. Inurnment will take place at a later date at Union Grove Cemetery in Harshaw. Hildebrand Funeral Home and Cremation Specialists, 24 E. I am so very sorry to hear about Donna's passing. I remember her well from when I was young. My thoughts and prayers to you and your family. Allow the memories of good times get you through this sad time.
