Robert E. Bessa

Robert E. Bessa, of Monico, passed away at the age of 93, on Sunday, Sept. 2, 2018. Bob was born Oct. 17, 1924 in Monico. He was one of nine children born to Stella and Clemens Bessa. After his education, Bob proudly served his country in the U.S. Army from February 1943 through February 1946 when he was honorably discharged. On Oct. 13, 1951, he was united in marriage to Dolores Pustelnik at St. James Catholic Church in Monico. Together they raised four children. Bob was employed with the Oneida County Highway Department for 40 years, retiring in 1986. After retirement, he thoroughly enjoyed owning and operating his antique and resale business called "The Kounty Shoppe" in Monico. Besides being a hard worker, he had a gift of playing music by ear. He served as the organist at St. James Catholic Church for several years. He also entertained family and friends at home with his accordion and harmonica playing. He had a beautiful baritone singing voice. Bob was a devoted husband and family man and will be deeply missed. Bob is survived by his children: Denny (Donna) Bessa, Greg (Kelly) Bessa, Gaye (Wayne) Houle and Denise (William Becker) Bessa; three grandchildren: Tyler Bessa, Michael (Beth) Houle and Sarah (Brian Capp) Houle and one great-grandson, Michael Houle. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife of 64 years, Dolores; and his siblings, Florence Huven, Jeanette Huven, Dolores Voight, Elaine Moore and Eugene, Ervin, Leonard and Richard Bessa. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated today, Thursday, Sept. 6, 2018 at noon at St. John Catholic Church, 750 Appleton Street, Pelican Lake. Fr. Kevin Farrell and Dn. Ron Bosi will officiate. Immediately following the Mass, there will be a procession to Holy Family Catholic Cemetery in Elcho. Full Military Honors will be conducted by the Elcho American Legion Post 377 and by two representatives from the United States Army. Hildebrand Funeral Home & Cremation Specialists, 24 E.
