Matthew Ralph Graczyk

Matthew Ralph Graczyk, age 99, passed away Sunday afternoon Feb. 24, 2019. He was born in Peru, Ill. on Sept. 15, 1919 and grew up in Milwaukee.

Matt joined the Civilian Conservation Corp in 1938 at Scott Lake Camp near Three Lakes, where he met Genevieve ("Jenny") Dominski his wife of 74 years. They were married on Nov. 29, 1941.

He served in the US Army 26th General Hospital group from 1941 until the end of World War II in August 1945 including 2.5 years overseas in England, North Africa and Italy as an X-ray technician at a rank of Sergeant.

After the war, he and Jenny made a home in Three Lakes raising three children and where he remained a member of St. Theresa Parish.

Matt worked on the bridge and oar dock crew for the Chicago Northwestern Railroad for 15 years. He enjoyed meeting a variety of people while bartending at the Three Lakes Legion for 5 years. Matt then worked for the Oneida County Highway Department where he retired in 1984.

He also spent many years as a caretaker for numerous summer home owners in Three Lakes.

He was proud of his membership in the Three Lakes American Legion Post 431 from 1945 until his death, receiving special honors in 2015 for 70 years of continuous membership.

He was also a member of the Eagle River VFW.

He is survived by his daughter Gail Hanson; sons: Stan and Tony (Connie); grandchildren: Christi Bonjean and Matthew (Katie) Graczyk and 6 great-grandchildren; brother Richard (Kathy) Graczyk and sister Esther Angle.

He was preceded in death by his wife Genevieve (2016), his father Matthew Graczyk, his mother Anna (Chojnacki) Graczyk, his sisters Josie Marciniak, Mary Grzybowski and Genevieve ("Susie") Heiitkemper; brother Frank Graczyk and son-in-law Roger Hanson.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday March 4, 2019 at St. Theresa's Catholic Church in Three Lakes.

A visitation will be take place one hour prior to the service.

Donations to the Three Lakes American Legion would be appreciated by the family.
