Glenn K Johnson, age 95, of Rhinelander, died on Feb. 27, 2019, at the St. Joseph's Hospital in Marshfield. Glenn was born on Nov. 14, 1923 in Racine, the son of Chris and Elsie (Sorenson) Johnson. He attended schools in Racine graduating from the Racine High School.
Immediately following his high school Glenn entered the U.S. Army and served his country as a member of the 501st Parachute Infantry Regiment. Glenn was a POW who was proud of his service but also felt it was his duty to his country. He was always humble about his service. Glenn was a member of the Wisconsin Central Chapter American X POW's.
After the war Glenn moved back to the states and married Annie James on June 30, 1945 in Fond du Lac. Together they enjoyed over 60 years of marriage. Annie preceded him in death on Aug. 30, 2006. They lived in the Fond du Lac area and then moved to Rhinelander where Glenn was employed in automobile sales for many years. Glenn was a natural at his job as he loved to talk to people and they enjoyed talking with him. He always sincerely cared about what you had to say.
In his spare time Glenn enjoyed his membership at the Rhinelander Country Club for many years. He always looked forward to the time spent with his son and friends, golfing, playing cards and "talking smart." In earlier years Glenn also enjoyed fishing, hunting and traveling with Annie. Glenn was also a member of the Masonic Lodge 242 F & AM in Rhinelander for many years and had served as Past Master of Cassia Lodge No. 67 in Plymouth.
Glenn is survived by his sister Betty (Orv), his brother Dale (Sue) Johnson, his daughter-in-law Jean Johnson, nieces and nephews, other family and many friends. In addition to his wife he was also preceded in death by his son Kenneth on March 25, 2015 and his brother Jack.
A memorial service for Glenn will be held on Friday May 3, 2019 at 11:30 a.m. at the Carlson Funeral Home with Reverend Timothy Vadis officiating. There will be a Masonic service on Friday May 3, 2019 at 10 a.m. at the Carlson Funeral Home. Visitation will immediately follow the Masonic service and continue up until the time of the memorial service. Interment will take place in the Southeast Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Union Grove next to his wife Annie. You may leave your private condolences for Glenn's family at www.carlsonfh.com.
