Phyllis (McKenzie) Haack

Phyllis (McKenzie) Haack celebrated her 88th birthday on March 1 in grand style and passed away on Tuesday, March 12, 2019 at her Verona home with her family at her side.

She was born in Rhinelander on March 1, 1931, to Milton Hone and Esther (Martinson) Hone. She married Derald McKenzie in 1947 and had five children. Phyllis was a successful appliance salesperson for Montgomery Ward, having won multiple awards and national recognition. She loved cooking for her family and entertaining for birthdays and holidays. She was an avid reader, loved to dance, sang solos in church choir and was an expert at Scrabble. Her ability to whistle to birds and get them to respond earned her the nickname "bird whisperer." She loved spending time with her family, listening to music and holding babies. She loved her winters in Sebring, Fla. with her husband, Bob Haack.

She is survived by William (Linda) McKenzie, Shelley (Sam) Manly White, Michael (Angela) McKenzie, Sara (Mitch) L'Herault and daughter-in-law Lynn McKenzie. She is further survived by her stepchildren Cindy (Chuck) Schepp, Kathy (Tim) Jasinski, Steve Haack and Debbie Haack; her 17 grandchildren (Bryan, Philip, Danielle, Neil, Andy, Chloe, Tess and Tara McKenzie; Leslie and Travis Manly; Hannah and Gabe L'Herault; Josh and Nathan Schepp; Sara, David and Ben Jasinski) and five great-grandchildren (Faith, Avery, Colin, Liam and Devan McKenzie). She is also survived by Lana, Gary, Lorane, Joni and Patrick Hone. She was preceded in death by her parents, her granddaughter, Lindsay McKenzie; her husband, Robert Haack and her first son, David McKenzie.

Her family would like to thank the staff at Noel Manor in Verona and Agrace Hospice for their compassionate care. As per her wishes, a private celebration will be held for the family.
