Richard R. Hunter

Richard R. Hunter, age 91, of Rhinelander, died March 20, 2019, at St. Mary's Hospital in Rhinelander. He was born in Rhinelander on Jan. 26, 1928 to Jesse and Ruth (Swanson) Hunter. Shortly after his schooling Richard joined the U.S. Army and served his country during World War II in the Pacific theatre. He was a recipient of the World War II Victory Medal.

Upon his honorable discharge Richard returned to Rhinelander and was employed by the Rhinelander Paper Company for 40 years. He was also a founding partner of H & H Septic service here in Rhinelander. Richard had also served as chairman, constable and supervisor for the town of Pine Lake.

Richard loved the outdoors and all you can do in the Northwoods. He enjoyed golfing, fishing, hunting and spending time working in his yard. After his retirement he enjoyed meeting with friends each morning for donuts and coffee at the local gas station.

He married the love of his life, Judith (Wood), and they were happily married for 69 years.

They especially enjoyed the later years surrounded by their children and grandchildren and attending all their activities. He was an amazing father to his son and five daughters and a wonderful Grandpa. Richard lived a life of compassion and integrity and will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

Richard is survived by his wife Judith; his five daughters: Pam (Reggie) Gray, Patricia (Larry) Kelly, Peggy (Adam) Freeman, Tammy (Jim) Flory and Tina (Mike Cress) Gatto; his 18 grandchildren: Jennifer, Shane, Ben, Sarah, Megan, Morgan, Amy, Tara, Jessica, Ashley, Addison, Ryan, Drew, Lauren, Sophie, Hunter, Kevin and Brian, 18 great-grandchildren, his sister Marlene Tushoski, his brother Denny (Pat) Hunter, nieces, nephews, other family and many friends. He was preceded in death by his son Thomas; his parents, sisters Joan Price and Jean Quade and his brother Jack.

Arrangements are incomplete at this time. A full notice will follow here and in the River News. The Carlson Funeral Home (715-369-1414) is serving the Hunter family.
