Margaret E. Alsteen

Margaret E. Alsteen, 94, of the Town of Newbold, passed away Friday, March 22, 2019 at her residence, with her family at her side and under the care of Ascension at Home Hospice.

Margaret was born in Rhinelander on Sunday, Jan. 18, 1925, the daughter of Patrick and Frances (Bergeon) Gauthier. She attended a one-room schoolhouse in Pine Lake through the sixth grade. Margaret was united in marriage in Rhinelander on May 5, 1942 to Joseph Louis Alsteen. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and later Nativity of Our Lord Catholic Church. She will be remembered for her strong faith in the Lord.

Margaret enjoyed camping, bingo and baking, especially bread. But most of all, she loved her family and enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. She wil be dearly missed by her children: Andrew (Delores) Alsteen of Rhinelander, Ruben (Debbie) Alsteen of Wausau, Sandra Schnoor, Audrey (Fred) Duberstein, all of Rhinelander; Christine (Dave) Nitzel of Sugar Camp, Gail Alsteen, Carmie (Terry) Winquist, all of Rhinelander; son-in-law, Dick DeMeyer of Harrison Hills, 17 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, and 17 great-great-grandchildren. Also surviving are one brother, Elmer Gauthier of Rhinelander, two sisters-in-law, Esther Gauthier of Rhinelander and Donna Alsteen of Rhinelander, and two brothers-in-law, Ray Alsteen of Wausau and Norman Alsteens of Rhinelander.

She is further survived by nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband Joseph L. Alsteen Sr.; two daughters, Susie DeMeyer and Margaret "Sis" Alsteen; two sons, Joseph L. Alsteen Jr. and Gregory Patrick Alsteen; one granddaughter, Angela Felbab; one grandson, Chad Winquist; two grandsons-in-law, Rick Holewinski and Matt Kuczmarski; brothers, Lloyd Gauthier, Harold (Esther) Gauthier, Ruben Gauthier; sisters, Evelyn Garrow and Agnes Gauthier and sisters-in-law, Linda (Clyde) Keso, Mary Alsteens and Eunice Alsteen.

The visitation for Margaret will take place on Saturday, April 6, 2019 at Nativity of Our Lord Catholic Church, located at the corner of King and Conro streets, from 10 a.m. until the 11 a.m. Memorial Mass.
