Harry "Bud" Hicks

Harry "Bud" Holte Hicks, age 86, passed to eternal life on Sept. 11, 2019. He was born April 9, 1933, in Sauk City, the son of Alma L. Holte and Harry Clyde Hicks.

Bud graduated from Madison East High in 1951 and the University of Wisconsin Madison in 1955. He moved to Puerto Armuelles, Republic of Panama, following his marriage to Mavis J. Freidig in 1955. He worked in the accounting department for the Chiriqui Land Co. in Panama. After two years, and the birth of their first child, they returned stateside and moved to Rhinelander, where he was plant manager for 14 years at the Red Dot/Frito Lay potato chip plant. He was owner and operator of Bud's Liquor & Cheese Mart for 11 years. He worked for the DMV for 8 years before retiring in 1999.

His hobbies included camping, fishing and hunting. He loved country music and playing cards, and took pride in maintaining his property.

He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Mavis Hicks of Rhinelander; daughters Laurie Jo Bruckner, Rhinelander, Susan (Mark) Schmidt, Hartland, Dee (Ace) Grahl, Lac du Flambeau, Angela (Bill) Bishop, Rhinelander, and a son, Darin (Sue) Hicks, Rhinelander; grandchildren: Weston (Zulema) Schmidt, Megan (Brandon) Basken, Hannah Hicks and Hunter Hicks; five great-grandchildren: James, Sofia & Mark Schmidt, and Jack & Margaret Basken as well as nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents Alma & Harry Hicks, brother John B. Hicks and granddaughter Erin Grace Druckrey.

The family would like to extend deep gratitude to the staff of Senior Hearts Home Care and Ascension Hospice for their compassionate loving care for Bud and the family.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, Oct. 12 at noon, with visitation from 11 a.m. to just prior to the services, all at Trinity Lutheran Church. You may leave your private condolences for the Hicks family at The Carlson Funeral Home (715-369-1414) is serving the Hicks family.
