Gary L. Buchschacher
Gary L. Buchschacher was born on July 24, 1938 and passed away surrounded by his loving family on March 30, 2020 in Prior Lake, Minn. Gary was born in Monroe, Wis., to Delbert and Leona (Messman) Buchschacher.
Early in life, Gary enlisted in the U.S. Navy and, in 1957, reported for two years of active duty service at the Naval Air Station in Jacksonville, Fla. He served six years in the Navy Reserve. After his military service, he attended Northern Michigan University, where he graduated from in 1965.
Throughout his life, Gary had a passion for science, nature and photography. He taught 7th grade science for one year in Rudyard, Mich. Eventually, Gary moved to Rhinelander, which became home for him and his wife, Gloria, for many years and where they raised their family.
While in Rhinelander, Gary was employed by the US Forestry Sciences Research Lab for 30 years and taught photography at Nicolet College for 20 years.
Gary is survived by his wife, Gloria, Prior Lake, Minn.; children, Julie (Doug), Prior Lake, Minn., Gary, Los Angeles, Calif., Scott (Jill), Minneapolis, Minn.; grandchildren Emily Dixon, Minneapolis Minn., and Joe Dixon, Chicago, Ill., and many beloved nieces and nephews. Gary's previously departed loved ones include his nephew Pete Mestnik.
A memorial service and burial for Gary will take place sometime this summer at Hillcrest Cemetery in Bessemer, Mich., a place he loved. Gary will be surrounded by beautiful bluffs and his loved ones as he is laid to rest.
