Forrest A. Brown
Forrest A. Brown, age 99, passed away on Friday, May 8, 2020 at Friendly Village.
Forrest A. Brown was born on Dec. 6, 1920 in Loyal. He was united in marriage to Bernice Prust of Marshfield, on Nov. 30, 1940. They were married nearly 80 years.
He worked in a CCC Camp at Fort McCoy in Sparta. The couple moved to Phillips for a year, living in a cabin which Forrest later said was one of his most enjoyable times. They lived 14 miles from nowhere in the woods while Forrest worked as a lumberjack! The family moved back to Marshfield and Forrest was employed as a truck driver and later as an auto technician. The family moved to Rhinelander in 1949. Forrest was then employed as a foreman at Atlas Plywood until the plant closed. He operated the Southside Mobil Station and later was employed at Cleary's Milk and Ice Cream as a driver.
Forrest fell in love with Lake Julia for its great walleye and musky fishing.
He began fishing there in the 1940s. When he moved to Rhinelander, he bought a home on Melody Lane, just two blocks off the lake. In 1968 he bought property on the north shore and built a home where he and Bernice would live until 2019.
After retiring Forrest spent the rest of his days enjoying his yard work, musky and walleye fishing, deer hunting, watching the bluebirds, cheering on the Green Bay Packers, and being an avid Brewers fan.
Forrest and Bernice were blessed with seven children. He is survived by his loving wife, Bernice; six children: Sheri (Don) Williams of Shennington, Wis., Doug Brown (Jackie Waldorf) of Rhinelander, Steve Brown of Shennington, Wis., Wendy Fletcher of Rhinelander, Russ (Lori) Brown of Rhinelander, and Mike (Julie) Brown of Harshaw. Also surviving are 14 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Elsie (Salzwedel) Brown; one daughter, Marla Jean Brown, and by three sisters.
At Forrest's request, there will be no visitation or service.
A Celebration of Life will take place at Lake Julia at a later date.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Hildebrand Funeral Home & Cremation Specialists, 24 E. Davenport Street, Rhinelander, Wisconsin 54501, 715-365-4343.
