Russell Dale Bouffiou, a native Hodag, was born in Rhinelander to Russell and Katherine (Tanner) Bouffiou on May 29, 1926.

Russ graduated from Rhinelander High School in 1944, an honor student and all conference MVP football player who could catch any ball thrown his way.

Russ was a World War II Army Air Corp Veteran. He attended the University of Wisconsin, where he graduated with an electrical engineering degree and a sense of adventure that took him to various states and two countries. He married Mary Louise Lewis, and to this union eight children were born.

Russ was an avid fan of the Packers, Brewers, and UW Badgers. He was a master Sheepshead and Skat card-player, and won numerous tournaments. Russ worked for Gisholt Machine Company in Madison for many years, during which time many lunch breaks were spent playing sheepshead at the Avenue Bar with his co-workers. During the years in Madison, Russ also taught physics at UW-Extension for 30 years. In addition to this busy work schedule, he managed to bowl, play softball, and spend time swimming, skating, fishing, golfing, and camping with his kids.

Russ later worked for Olin Corporation in Baraboo where he met and married Dorothy Baumgartner. Upon leaving Olin, they worked together at Plastic Ingenuity in Cross Plains, until retiring.

They enjoyed many years of travel, especially spending winters in South Texas.

Survivors include his wife Dorothy and his children Tom (Terri) Bouffiou, Laura Jacobson, Mary Graylow, Lydia Bouffiou Paul, Katherine Bouffiou, Russell L. Bouffiou, Shelley Bouffiou and Michael Bouffiou; brother Doug Bouffiou; stepsons Jim (Julie) Baumgartner and Gary (Patti) Baumgartner; and brother-in-law Carl Peterson. Also surviving are 21 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, seven great-great-grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Russ was preceded in death by his parents, an infant brother, sister Maxine McElrone, wife Mary Louise, sons-in-law Ron Jacobson, Richard Graylow and Randy Paul, sisters-in-law Sandy Bouffiou and Shirley Peterson, stepson Bruce Baumgartner and brother-in-law LeRoy Wepking.

He will be laid to rest in a private ceremony in Rhinelander on his birthday, May 29, 2021.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the Hildebrand Funeral Home & Cremation Specialists, 24 E. Davenport Street, Rhinelander, WI, 54501, 715-365-4343.
