Lynn Rae Lintereur

Lynn Rae Lintereur, 60, of Rhinelander, passed away peacefully on Dec. 22, 2020, after a beautiful winter sunset, at her home with her family by her side.

Lynn was born Dec. 1, 1960 in Minneapolis/ St. Paul, Minn. to Joanne and Tom Magnuson.

Lynn spent her formative years in the eastern Minnesota and western Wisconsin area.

She graduated from high school in Luck, Wis. in 1978. Her love of education took root early in her life as she helped her parents raise her six younger siblings. She took this love of education with her to college, graduating from UWSP in 1982 with her undergraduate degree in Special Education, later receiving her master's degree from Marion College in 2006.

Lynn taught special ed for two years in Campbellsport and then for 25 years in Rhinelander, retiring in December of 2019 due to health issues.

While at UWSP, Lynn met the love of her life, Fred Lintereur. They married Aug. 22, 1981. Together, they raised two children; David and Rachel Lintereur.

Lynn enjoyed kicking back with a good book, puzzle, or movie, traveling, bike riding, long walks, rescuing animals, and watching sports, especially her beloved Packers. Most of all, Lynn enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. Lynn was known for her sharp wit, her no-nonsense demeanor, her willingness to help those in need, her dedication and love for the students she guided over the course of her career...and her "Lynn-isms" (just ask Fred about those).

Many people weren't aware that Lynn had been bravely fighting pancreatic cancer for over a year - that was Lynn's wish as she never wanted attention or pity, she wanted to go about her life with as much normalcy as possible. Her battle with cancer occurred during the pandemic, therefore family was not allowed to be by her side during treatments and hospitalizations.

Because of this, medical staff took on not only the role of providing medical care, but also companionship during difficult times. Special thanks to Dr. Douglas Redding and Dr. Darryl Barton, and their staff at James Beck Cancer Center; Dr. Dawn Baker and her staff in Interventional Radiology at Ascension St. Mary's; Dr. Ben George, Gastric Oncologist, at Froedtert Hospital in Milwaukee.

Lynn is survived by her husband, Fred, and their beloved children, David and Rachel. She is further survived by her father, Tom (Lisa), her stepfather, Rick Hoffman, her six siblings: David, Lisa (Tim), Michael, Steven (Michelle), Joel (Deb), and Lenae Pederson; her dear Aunt and Uncle Linda and Rich Weber, their children Marren and Eric (Heidi); Fred's siblings: Jim (Pat), Erika (Sharon), Joe, Mike, Mary (John) Graettinger, Anne (Mike) Merryfield, Sarah (Tom) Galloy, as well as many relatives and friends.

Lynn was preceded in death by her mother, Joanne Hoffman, her grandparents, her Aunt Margaret Stanchfield, Fred's parents, and sister-in-law, Carolyn Selle.

Lynn always enjoyed a get-together with her friends and family, however, she would be troubled by the idea of a gathering on her behalf during the COVID-19 pandemic. Therefore, no services will be scheduled at this time. Please take a moment to remember Lynn and celebrate her remarkable life, in any way that seems right to you, from the safety of your own home. Her family feels, and is grateful for, your love and support. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Special Olympics or Ascension Hospice.

You may leave your private condolences for the Lintereur Family at

The Carlson Funeral home (715-369-1414) is handling the arrangements for the family.
