Bonita Beatrice Hale, 84 of Rhinelander, died on Friday, Aug. 27, 2021 at her home. She was born on Nov. 3, 1936 to William and Beatrice (Lassig) Grunst in Rhinelander. Bonita attended schools in Rhinelander and graduated from Rhinelander High School in 1955. Later in life she attended Nicolet College in Rhinelander and completed her Liberal Arts Degree in 1978.
Bonita joined the United States Navy after graduating from high school. She met and married her late husband Richard while she was serving in Great Lakes Naval Base and they were married in 1957. After her honorable discharge from the Navy, Richard and Bonita lived in California for a few years before moving back to Rhinelander where Richard started to work for Rhinelander Glass. In 1980 Richard and Bonita started their own glass company, Country Glass.
Bonita loved to garden, birdwatch, make crafts for birthdays and special occasions, travel to Arizona in the winter, and anything outdoors. She was very talented when it came to music, she taught piano lessons, played the flute and piccolo in the community band, and inspired two of her grandchildren to pursue a career in music. Bonita loved her family and her Lord the most and she never missed an opportunity to spend time with her family or her church family. She loved to talk to people and would always make sure to bring up her grandchildren somewhere in the conversation.
Bonita loved the community that she lived in and gave back by volunteering with 4H, the Scouts, the Pioneers, Community Band and was a regular member at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church. She was very proud of her military service and was a member of the AMVETS here in Rhinelander.
Bonita is survived by her daughters Belinda (Darrell) Graves of New London, Pamela (Andrew) Nylund of Tomahawk, Tracey (Dick) Anderson of New London, son Robert (Linda) Hale of Appleton; grandchildren Ryan, Jason, Adam, Matthew, Travis, Taylor, Haley, Eric, Jacob, Michael, Ryan, Rachel; 16 great-grandchildren, other family and many friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband Richard in 1999, grandson CJ, parents, brother Harold Grunst, and sister Gretchen Thibodeaux.
The family would ask that any donations be made to the Rhinelander Community Band or the Rhinelander AMVETS Post 724.
A funeral service will be held for Bonita at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in Rhinelander on Thursday, Sept. 2, 2021 at noon with Reverend Karl Schultz, there will be a visitation from 10 a.m. until the time of service at the church. A private family interment will take place at the Central Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery.
