Wesley Marks Stafford, age 80, died peacefully at Friendly Village on Jan. 28, 2021. He was born to James P. and Beryl (Marks) Stafford on April 21, 1940 in Rhinelander.
Wes graduated from Rhinelander High School in 1958 and went on to complete a bachelor's degree at Stevens Point in 1962 and a master's degree at Superior majoring in Education. Wes had a deep love from an early age on for history and geography and used this love to inspire others in a career of teaching high school English, history, and social studies. He made his mark on the students of Crystal Falls and Iron River, Michigan area by teaching for 20 years. Then he broadened his horizons and went in a different direction driving for Waste Management for the remainder of his working life.
His father taught him to love the outdoors and throughout his life he loved to hunt, fish, swim, and just walk in the woods and enjoy the beauty of the surrounding nature. Wes loved his dogs and cats and they were his constant companions. He loved to garden and cook and late in life he met Eva Langner, his only love. In his spare time it was not unusual to see him reading an encyclopedia or studying a map. He was also known for his voice impressions of famous people making everyone around him laugh.
Wes is survived by his sister, Joan (Ernie) Schulter, nephew Steven (Renate) Haag and grand-nephew Brandon, grandniece Sarah (Daniel) Carmichael and daughter Campbell, and James (Becky) Haag and grandnieces Katarina and Kristina, and many Cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Beryl (Marks) Stafford, his niece Denise Mason, and Eva Langner. He will be deeply missed.
