John Paul Laggis, 88, passed away April 15, 2022, at his home in Parowan, Utah. He was born Aug. 27, 1933, in Chicago, to Paul and Lillian Laggis. He moved to Rhinelander with the family as a young boy, and split time growing up between Rhinelander and Bath, New York.
He served in the U.S. Army before returning to Rhinelander and marrying Marilyn Montgomery. Together they had three children. The entrepreneurial spirit was strong in his Greek family, and John owned several businesses over the years in addition to the time he spent with Wisconsin Public Service. He was creative, intelligent and pretty good at just about everything he did.
He loved cars, and in later years right up through last summer, he'd drive his convertible from Utah back to Rhinelander each summer to spend time with family and friends. He didn't enjoy Wisconsin winter but was able to spend much of his last few months in Madison, surrounded by his kids and grandkids.
John is survived by his children Demi (Ralph) Havel, MJ (Amber) Laggis and Luke Laggis; grandchildren Elly, Abe, Cal, Ike and Gigi Laggis; brothers Dan (Lawton, Michigan) and Stratton (Pocatello, Idaho), along with his wife Jessi and her family.
He was a big fan of cold beer, cowboy boots and the NRA, and he hated butterflied steaks.
Private services were held in Parowan, Utah.
