Sandra Jean Gardner

Sandra Jean Gardner, age 77, of Rhinelander, died on June 16, 2022, at the Aspirus Rhinelander Hospital. She was born on Jan. 16, 1945, in Rhinelander, to Merritt and Virginia (Carlson) Scheidegger. When she was 18, she met her future husband, Kenneth Gardner. They married in March of 1964 and just celebrated their 58th wedding anniversary. Sandy was raised on the Cuenin Homestead south of Rhinelander and in 1977 she and Kenny bought the homestead and moved in with their kids. This is where she excelled at being a hostess; welcoming family and friends to the "Old Homestead" right up until her illness would no longer allow it.

Sandy owned and ran Scheidegger Catering Service for several years and then served as the Oneida County Deputy Clerk until she retired in 2006. She loved reading, gardening, planning a good shindig and playing cards, especially Sheepshead, with her family. But most of all, she loved Kenny.

Sandy is survived by her husband and their four children, Kelly, Tracy (John) Beckman, Greg and Debbie (Mike) Watz. She is also survived by her five grandchildren: Kevin, Thomas, Emma, Richard and Samantha; three sisters Janice, Katie & Ginger, sister-in-law Darlene and all of her nieces and nephews that held such a special place in her heart. She has joined her parents and her brothers Larry, Jack and Jeff.

The family would like to thank the amazing health care workers at Aspirus Rhinelander Hospital for their loving care and a special thank you to her occupational therapist, Jackie, Doctor Sarah Moore and her end of life nurse, Maddie.

A visitation will be held at the Carlson Funeral Home, 134 N. Stevens Street, Rhinelander on Wednesday, June 22, 2022 from 10 a.m. to noon at which time there will be a memorial service officiated by Chaplain John Uhlarik.

The Carlson Funeral Home (715-369-1414) is serving the Gardner family.
