Marjorie Ann (Palm) Saari

Marjorie Ann (Palm) Saari of Rhinelander left this life for the next on Sept. 28, 2022, after several years of a valiant struggle with cancer. She was born in Rhinelander on Jan. 31, 1937 to Gustaf and Ingeborg Palm. Marge graduated from Rhinelander High School in 1955 and subsequently completed a nursing degree from Grant Hospital in Chicago in 1958. She completed her bachelor's degree in 1978 from the College of St. Francis in Joliet, Ill. and worked in several positions near Chicago including staff nurse surgery recovery room, instructor for foreign exchange nurses and occupational health nurse consultant.

It was in Chicago that Marge met her husband, John, and they moved to Rhinelander in 1975 where she began to work at Nicolet Area Technical College as an instructor in the Nursing Assistant Program. When she was hired by the Oneida County Health Department in 1980, she worked as a Public Health Nurse until her retirement in 2000 but continued her service commitment, by volunteering for the Meals on Wheels program and the Rhinelander Food Pantry.

Marge was preceded in death by her parents and by her sisters Jane Krummel and Grace Sinclair and by her brothers Richard Palm and James Palm. She had a special place in her heart for her many nieces and nephews who include: Richard (Deborah) Krummel of Houston, Texas; Susan Krummel of Houston; Lana Pfeiffer of Phoenix, Ariz.; Teren Steele of Pacifica, Calif.; Sheila Palm (David) Cohen of Croton on Hudson, N.Y.; Eleanor Palm of Bethesda, Md.; Carlton (Dessa) Palm of Dumaguete, Philippines; Margie Palm (John Heffernan) of Washington, D.C.; Carolyn Palm-Leon (Miguel Leon) of Oneonta, New York; Carolyn Sinclair of Greenwood, Ind.; Dianne (Gerald) Denslow of Neptune Beach, Fla.; and Steve (Amy) Sinclair of Eden Prairie, Minn. She also has many grandnephews and grandnieces she loved and she cherished their visits to the Great Northwoods. Marge shared many happy times with her two cousins, Joyce Palm of Rhinelander and Ronnie (Ruth) Palm of Florida. Her many friends from her previous employment, from the birthday group and from her high school, were very important to Aunt Marge and a source of much joy, laughter and fond memories. She was also a member of the First Congregational U.C.C. in Rhinelander and volunteered joyfully there.

Marge's many relatives offer this remembrance and tribute: Marge Saari was spontaneous and full of life and spirit. She was extroverted and loved being around people and meeting new friends. She was generous with her time and money, loved her pet dogs and cats and enjoyed outdoor activities such as cross country skiing, golfing and, in later years, walking on various hiking trails. She loved life, she loved us and we will miss her forever.

It is with deep gratitude that we thank the staff of Rennes Health and Rehab Center for their care of Aunt Marge during the last months of her life.

A memorial service acknowledging her life will be at a later date at the Carlson Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that contributions in Marge Saari's memory be made to Meals on Wheels (, the Rhinelander Food Pantry ( and the Rhinelander Historical Society ( You may leave your private condolences for Marge's family at

I remember fondly spending many Christmas & Thanksgiving holidays with Marge and her brothers. Her mother Ingeborg was married to my grandfather Frank Blumreich where they lived on Alban St. in Rhinelander. My sincerest condolences to her family.
