William "Bill" L. Tischendorf, age 76, passed away on Monday, Oct. 24, 2022. He was born Sept. 17, 1946, in Tomahawk, to William O. and Martha (Nielson) Tischendorf. Bill grew up in the Minocqua/Lac du Flambeau area and graduated from Lakeland High School.
In 1966, Bill joined the United States Air Force and he and Sherry (Williams) Tischendorf were married soon after. He served in Vietnam and was stationed in Texas and North Dakota before returning to Northern Wisconsin in 1970. Bill and Sherry settled in on Hancock Lake where they raised their family and became integral members of the Hancock Lake and Woodboro community.
Bill retired from NCR in 2011 after 40 years with the company and dedicated himself to working with the Lake Association. He promoted lake weed management as the "weed guy" and worked with multiple university and DNR studies on creek/lake water composition and loon behavior.
Bill is survived and mourned by his wife of more than 50 years, Sherry; his daughter, Tamy (Tom) Chambers; his son, Marcus (Tanya) Tischendorf; and his five grandsons who miss their "Buppa": Everett (Erin) Sherwood, Zaine Tischendorf, Sawyer Chambers, Wylie Chambers, and Reid Tischendorf. He is further survived by his siblings, Judy (Dave) Groh, Jill Haling, Nancy (Don) Johnson, Patty Beseler, Dorothy (Patrick) Payne, Peggy Engel, and Edward (Lois) Engel, as well as nieces and nephews.
Bill was preceded in death by his father, William O. Tischendorf; his mother, Martha Engel; his stepfather, Bill Engel; and his brothers-in-law and hunting buddies, Butch Haling and Russ Beseler.
The family is respecting Bill's wishes to have no funeral service and instead will be mourning and celebrating his life together in private. Generations Funeral Home & Crematory is assisting the family.
