Julie Harkins, age 99, of Rhinelander, died on Nov. 8, 2022, at the Milestone Senior Living, in Rhinelander. She was born on Jan. 4, 1923, in Newald, the daughter of Nickolas and Luba (Cobash) Perenick. She attended schools in Newald and Poplar before graduating from Crandon High School in 1941. Julie married Bernard Harkins and he preceded her in death on April 30, 2000. After their marriage they lived in Milwaukee, where she was employed as a secretary for the Lincoln Wholesale Company until her retirement in 1980. It was at that time that they moved to Rhinelander where she has lived since.
Julie's faith was an important part of her life and she was a longtime member of the Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in Rhinelander. In her later years she was a resident of the Milestone Senior Living facility and she enjoyed her stay there.
Julie is survived by her grandson Steve (Beth) Venz, her great-grandchildren Julia, Nathan and Troy, her niece Luba King, nephew James (Jeryl) Perenich, other nieces, nephews, family and friends. In addition to her husband she was also preceded in death by her daughter Marilyn Venz, grandson Robbie Venz, her brothers Steve, Michael, George, Gollub and Nick, her sister Mary and her stepmother Vanda.
Visitation for Julie will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 15, 2022 from 9 to 10 a.m. with funeral services following at 10 a.m., all at the Carlson Funeral Home. The Reverend Karl Schultz will be officiating. Interment will follow in the Crandon Lakeside Cemetery in Crandon.
