Janice Elizabeth Jewell, age 89 of Rhinelander, passed away on Monday, Dec. 26, 2022, in Wausau. She was born on March 26, 1933, in Three Lakes, the daughter of Alfred and Marie (Runga) Wittrock.
Janice graduated from Rhinelander High School in 1951. On October 11, 1952 she married Clarence "Pickles" Jewell and they were blessed with nearly 62 years of marriage. They lived in Starks until moving to Rhinelander in 1960. During her lifetime she worked hard. She began picking potatoes in Starks and then worked for many years as a waitress at the Holiday Inn, Weirs and the Longhorn Supper Clubs and then for the Rhinelander Café and Pub for over 20 years.
Outside of her work her family was the most important part of her life. She enjoyed being involved in any and all of their activities. Beyond her family Janice just enjoyed life and being around people. She was known for putting others needs ahead of her own and being a good Wisconsin girl, she was an avid Green Bay Packers and Milwaukee Brewers fan.
Janice is survived by her daughters Cynthia "Cindy" Jewell, Lisa (Mark) Demro, her sons Randolph "Randy" (Sandy Rhode) Jewell and Theodore "Ted" (Lisa) Jewell, her grandchildren Kristen (Scott) Jewell-Neveaux, Jeff (Rose) Jewell, Joshua (Maria Grabiec) Jewell, Ashley Jewell, Amy (Joe) Huber, Sara (George Miller) Jewell, Brett (Alicia Swensen) Jewell, Jared Demro and Jordan Demro, eight great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild, her sister Christine Wedler, her brothers John Wittrock and Wayne (Kathy) Wittrock, nieces, nephews, other family and many friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Clarence (Pickles) Jewell on March 3, 2014, her sisters Eleanor Scheeler and Alfreda Johnson and her brothers Ralph, Charlie, Richard, Thomas and Robert Wittrock.
Visitation for Janice will be held on Friday, Jan. 6, 2023, from 10 a.m. until noon, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at noon, all at the Nativity of our Lord Catholic Church.
