Michael "Mick" Raymond Zettler, 60, of White Pine, Mich., and a former resident of Rhinelander, passed away at home with family by his side the morning of Thursday, Jan. 5, 2023, after a courageous battle with head and neck cancer.
Mick was born on Jan. 11, 1962, in Rhinelander, to Raymond A. and Helen J. (Motowski) Zettler. He was raised in Rhinelander and graduated from Rhinelander High School in 1980. Mick had been employed at the Pied Piper restaurant and the Holiday Inn as a cook, Ellis Stone in construction before beginning his 26-year career working as a rewinder operator at the Rhinelander Paper Company, retiring in 2018 where he began his life in White Pine.
Mick enjoyed deer hunting and was an avid ice fisherman. He was a lifelong Green Bay Packers fan, loved NASCAR, WWE, and watching the Weather Channel. He loved rock music of all kinds; he attended countless concerts and was known for his loud jam sessions at home. He spoiled his Pug dogs, Tyson and Abby, who lived long lives filled with treats and many car rides. He enjoyed his travels to Montana and the Grand Teton National Park, many times wishing he could have gone out west again.
He had a way with people, making friends with everyone he met, from his bankers, co-workers, and even the gas station attendants. He will be remembered for being a genuine, kind man who had been blessed with a loving family and group of amazing lifelong friends, who he thought of as brothers.
Mick lived life on his own terms, always up for a good time making friends along the way. He was not afraid to say what needed to be said and loved a good laugh. Because of this he left us with so many wonderful memories. He will be dearly missed by his children, Rayanne Zettler of Marquette, Mich., Kristy (Christopher) Botkin of Lake Villa, Ill., Tony Messina (Teresa Holbrook and her children, Layla, Ashton, and Matthew) of Rhinelander, his former wife, Karen Zettler of White Pine, Mich., and three grandchildren, Lillian, Olivia, and Henry Botkin; sibling, Susan (Joseph) Benjamin of Harrisburg, Pa. and their children, Jake and Larissa Benjamin, along with other nieces and nephews, and many amazing friends.
Mick is preceded in death by his parents, his granddaughter Faith Botkin, and Jake and Jared Houg, the sons of his best friend Tom (Kari), who were all there to welcome him.
The visitation for Mick will take place on Saturday, Jan.14, 2023, from 11 a.m. until the 1 p.m. funeral service at the Hildebrand Funeral Home. Chaplain Bill Norris will officiate.
Immediately following the service there will be a procession to Nativity of Our Lord Catholic Cemetery for the burial. This will be followed by a celebration in his memory at Moonlighting.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to a memorial account established for Mick which will allow the family to honor Mick's memory within the communities he loved the most. Please send your contributions to Kristina Botkin at CoVantage Credit Union or Venmo @Rayanne-Zettler.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the Hildebrand Funeral Home & Cremation Specialists, 24 E. Davenport Street, Rhinelander, Wisconsin, 54501, 715-365-4343. Everyone is invited to sign the guestbook or leave an online condolence at www.hildebrandrussfh.com.
