Evelyn Nitzel successfully completed her journey through life on the Epiphany of our Lord, January 8, 2023, at the age of 96.
Evelyn was born on May 16, 1926, the youngest daughter of Theodore and Mary (Szymanski) Piasecki. She was raised in Sugar Camp and attended Lakeview School and Sugar Camp School.
Evelyn married Ruben Nitzel on June 11, 1946, at St. Kunegunda of Poland Catholic Church. The couple made there home in Sugar Camp. Through the years, Evelyn had many jobs, including taking care of camp laundry, driving school bus, helping in the spring and fall on the Sowinski potato farm, and her last place of employment was at Twist Drill. In 1980, after the death of her husband, Ruben, Evelyn moved to Rhinelander.
For most of her life she was a member of St. Kunegunda of Poland Catholic Church.
She enjoyed knitting, crocheting and colored pencil art.
Surviving are her children, Dennis R. (Emeline) Nitzel Sr. of Rhinelander, Mark A. (Teresa) Nitzel of Sugar Camp and a daughter-in-law, Christine Nitzel of Sugar Camp, grandchildren, Dennis Nitzel Jr., Matthew (Traci) Nitzel, Jake Nitzel, Ruben D. Nitzel and Matt Radtke, two great-grandsons, Timmy Felbab and Tristan Nitzel and one great-granddaughter, Carly Nitzel. Also surviving are nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Theodore and Mary Piasecki, husband, Ruben B. Nitzel, son, David Nitzel, granddaughter, Angela Felbab, sisters, Agnes (Archie) Stefoneck, Pearl (Ted) Nitzel, Julia (Paul) Steingreber, and Dorothy (Martin) Pollack, brothers, Anton (Josephine) Piasecki, August (Angeline) Piasecki and William "Pete" Piasecki.
The visitation for Evelyn will take place on Monday, Jan.16, 2023, at the Hildebrand Funeral Home from 4 p.m. until the 7 p.m. parish prayer service.
A second visitation will take place on Tuesday morning, Jan. 17, 2023, at St. Kunegunda of Poland Catholic Church, located at 6895 State Road 17, Sugar Camp from 10 a.m. until the 11 a.m. mass of Christian burial. Fr. Rich Rhinehart will officiate.
Immediately following the mass there will be a procession to the church cemetery for the committal service.
