Eli Richard Marquardt, age 17, of Rhinelander, died on Saturday, Jan. 21, 2023 at home in Rhinelander. He was born on Oct. 26, 2005, in Rhinelander, to Rebecca Steffke-Varnum and Benjamin Marquardt.
Eli attended Rhinelander High School as a member of the class of 2024.
Eli was known for his big heart and caring personality. He made lifelong friends everywhere he lived and showed compassion to everyone he met.
After graduation, Eli had planned to become a counselor to help people suffering from mental illness.
Eli was loved especially by his younger brothers who tried to emulate everything Eli did.
Eli was a talented artist who enjoyed fishing trips to Lake Superior with his father and looked forward to hunting season every year. Eli was happiest going on outdoor excursions with his family. Above all, Eli loved playing video games with his many friends.
Eli is survived by his parents Rebecca (Douglas) Varnum and Benjamin (Tracy) Marquardt, his siblings Isaiah and Emily Piosalan and Findlay, Levi, and Alexander Varnum, his grandparents Richard and Corinne Steffke, and Greg (Chip) and Ali Marquardt, his great-grandmother Janet Marquardt, his uncle Patrick Cook, his aunt Trudi Somers, aunt Kayla Steffke and too many more to list can all claim with love and pride that they raised Eli.
Eli Richard Marquardt was raised by a village.
He was preceded in death by his aunt Robin Steffke, great-grandparents Harold and Viola Walti and Richard (Dick) Marquardt, Shirly Kaczmarek-Steffke, Robert Edward Steffke, John Tomaszewski and Marylin Cannon, and his grandmother Prudence Walti.
Visitation for Eli will be held on Tuesday, Jan. 31, 2023 from 10 a.m. until noon at the Carlson Funeral Home. Graveside services will follow at approximately 12:15 p.m. at the Forest Home Cemetery. Interment will be in the Forest Home Cemetery.
