Charles "Charlie" J. Bettinger, 80, of Rhinelander, passed away on Monday morning, Jan. 30, 2023, at Aspirus Rhinelander Hospital.
Charlie was born in Rhinelander on July 14, 1942, to Leslie "Ted" and Helen (Panko) Bettinger. He was raised in Rhinelander and in 1961, graduated from Rhinelander High School. He then enlisted in the U.S. Navy, proudly serving his country in two tours of duty during the Vietnam War.
After returning to Rhinelander, Charlie began his employment at the paper mill which would last over 30 years. Charlie retired in 1997.
He was united in marriage at St. Mary's Catholic Church to Candace Lewis on Dec. 3, 1966.
He enjoyed spending time at the hunting camp in Enterprise and fishing.
He will be dearly missed by his wife, Candace; children, Dean (Denese) Bettinger, Nick (Terri) Bettinger; grandsons, Damien (Alexis) Bettinger, and Robert Bettinger, granddaughters, Megan Bettinger (Jon Yanke), and Jenna Bettinger; three great-granddaughters, Haylee, Maddy, and Vivynn; brother, Michael (Cindy) Bettinger, and sisters, Barbara (Tim) Craig, and Sharon Gobert.
Also surviving are nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
The family will celebrate Charlie's life with a private family service, which will be held at a later date.
