Floyd J. Breneman, age 94 of Rhinelander, passed away on Thursday, Feb. 16, 2023, at Aspirus Rhinelander Hospital, surrounded by loving family.
Floyd was born Aug. 30, 1928, in Rhinelander, to William and Louise (Turcotte) Breneman. He lived most of his life in Rhinelander. Floyd joined the Army in 1950 and served in the Korean War. He was honorably discharged in 1952. After leaving the army, he worked for the Rhinelander Telephone Company, Pecor/Gaber Electric repairing motors, Tele-Tech TV as a Maytag repairman, and then worked for 21 years at the Rhinelander Paper Mill until he retired in 1990. He also had his own business, Breneman Electric Motor Repair.
In 1952, Rose Mary Lange snagged Floyd up at Rosie's Bar. She needed a ride and liked his new blue Studebaker. The rest is history. They were united in marriage on June 11, 1955, in Rhinelander. Floyd was a loving and faithful husband to Rose Mary for 67 years, and they raised four children together. When his children were younger, they enjoyed camping and fishing. Some travel included vacations to California, Vermont, Florida, Las Vegas, Hawaii, Arizona, and several road trips to visit extended family. In later years, much time was spent doing jigsaw puzzles together.
Floyd was a wonderful, thoughtful, caring, non-judgmental man who was always ready to help his family and friends. He stepped up and cared for some of his brothers and friends at their life's end. He was witty and always ready with a quick comeback and had several song bits that he liked to sing. He loved and enjoyed his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren, and gathering together for holidays and special occasions. Even when dementia took his memory away, he lit up when family was visiting. He had a lot of pride in his family.
Floyd was preceded in death by his parents, William Breneman, Louise (Turcotte) Breneman, brothers, Donald, Bernard, Robert, and Raymond Breneman, and sister Dorothy Berg.
Floyd is survived by his wife, Rose Mary, four children, Julie (Pat) Laska of Rhinelander, Steven (Korry) Breneman of Rhinelander, Diana (Don) Baxa of Sartell, Minn., and Dawn (JP) Wieske of Green Bay; 13 grandchildren, Matthew (Stephanie) Laska, Benjamin (Jessica) Laska, Jacob (Jeanette) Laska, Daniel (Janelle) Laska, Jenna Laska, Kayla (Paul) Bauer, Zachary Breneman, Joshua Baxa, Alex (Saori) Baxa, Jared Baxa, Emily Baxa, Tyler Wieske, Jonah Wieske, and eight great-grandchildren, Kiley, Brynnley, Vivian, Zoe, Grant, Rhett, Autumn, and Ayden.
