Jean Elizabeth Hazelquist passed peacefully away on March 12, 2023, with her children close by.
Jean was born on Nov. 7, 1937, in Antigo, to Frank and Ruth Brennecke. She graduated from Antigo High School in 1955 and three years later married the love of her life, Peter Hazelquist. Jean was well-versed in many subjects and especially loved to talk biblical history and the promise of a paradise earth. Jean also enjoyed Broadway plays, musicals and ballets and attended many events with her daughters and granddaughters. Her love of travel and adventure led her to become a travel agent which led to trips to Africa and China.
Her last big adventure was in 2020 when her son and her traveled to Europe and visited Poland and Budapest which held great meaning to her as she had dreamed of traveling there since she was a teenage girl.
Jean is survived by her husband Peter, her daughters, Cherrie Hazelquist-Hagerman, and Jill (Don) Smith, her son, Mark, her grandchildren, Amber Stevens, Melissa Hagerman, Jake Hazelquist, Samantha Smith and great-granddaughter, Skylar.
She is also survived by her sisters, Judy (Harlan) Dorn, Janice (Gene) Jankowski, Joyce (John) Hitz and brothers, Robert (Debbie) Laehn and Ed (Mabel) Tousignant.
She was preceded in death by her brother, Donald (Mary) Brennecke.
A memorial talk will be held at 2 p.m., May 13, 2023, at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses in Rhinelander.
A luncheon will be served from 3 to 5 p.m. at the Pines Event Center on Forest Lane (off Hwy 47). Please feel free to join us at either or both events to celebrate Jean.
