Joanne B. Hirman, age 71, of Rhinelander, died Wednesday, Oct. 17, 2012, at her residence surrounded by her loving family. Joanne was born on Nov. 27, 1940, in Enterprise, to Frank and Elsie (Meister) Ory Sr. She was a 1958 graduate of Elcho High School. Joanne attended Humbolt Business School where she graduated in 1959. On Jan. 23, 1960, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, in Raymond, Minn., Joanne was united in marriage with Lloyd Hirman. She was a member of Nativity of Our Lord Catholic Church, and a member of Friends of the Rhinelander Animal Shelter, and will be remembered for collecting and donating pull tabs for the Ronald McDonald House. Joanne enjoyed playing horseshoes and going to the casino. She will also be remembered for her love of wildlife, as well as raising wild and domestic birds. Joanne had many interests including planting flowers, picking berries, and nightcrawlers, ice fishing, and being a Milwaukee Brewers and Green Bay Packers fan. But most of all, she enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Surviving is her loving husband of 52 years, Lloyd; children, Sherry (Erv) DeBruin, Rich (Lisa), and Jerry (Cheryl) Hirman all of Rhinelander; eight grandchildren, Matt (Wendy), and Dan Hirman, Josh (Meggie), Tim, and Alisha Lundberg, and Justin, Chris, and Ryan Hirman; one sister, Betty Feustel of Neenah; and four brothers, Frank (Vivian) Ory Jr. of Enterprise, Joe (Jackie) Ory of Rhinelander, Ervin Ory of Pelican Lake, and Alan Ory of Elcho. She is further survived by brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Trina, Bev, Duane (Diane), Dennis (Vicki), Stan (Diann), Gary (Rosemary), Darrell (Barb), Mike (Sandy), Brad, and Kathy Hirman. Also surviving are her loving companions, Sadie, Sassy, and Sissy. Joanne is further survived by many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Frank Sr. and Elsie Ory; one sister, Millie Ory; an infant daughter, Angel; sister-in-law, Sandy Hirman; brothers-in-law, Gene and John Hirman; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Clarence and Edna Hirman; and a nephew, Tim Hirman.

A memorial service will be held on Monday evening Oct. 22, 2012, at 6 p.m. at the funeral home with Father Tom Thakadipuram officiating.
