Beatrice Marie Ek

Beatrice Marie Ek, age 94, passed away on Tuesday, Dec. 4, 2012. She was born in Crandon, on Nov. 28, 1918, to Adolph and Mame Biermeier. Bea lived her childhood in the town of Crescent at the Hat Rapids Dam. She married Kermit Ek, in October of 1938, in Rhinelander. He preceded her in death on June 28, 1982.

She was a member of Nativity of Our Lord Catholic Church and belonged to the parish women's club, where she enjoyed working on bazaars and luncheons. Bea liked watching sports on TV, especially baseball games, and playing cards. Much of her life she was a homemaker, except for the 16 years she spent as a waitress at the Claridge. She was proud of being the oldest and longest resident of Phoenix Villa, where she associated with many wonderful people through the years.

Beatrice is survived by her three daughters, Dolores Saumer of Wisconsin Rapids, Susan (Larry) Reno and Patricia (Mike) Vlahakis both of Rhinelander; three grandchildren, Matt Saumer, Chris Saumer and Michelle (Paul) Venzke; and two great-grandchildren, Caleb and Noah Venzke; and a sister, Dorothy Reiser.

She was preceded in death by her husband, parents and her brothers, Ray and Ed Biermeier.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be Wednesday, Dec. 12, 2012, at 11 a.m. at Nativity of Our Lord - St. Mary's site with Father Tom Thakadipuram officiating. Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. until the time of mass at the church. A luncheon will follow after the service at the church. Burial will be at St. Mary's Cemetery. Hildebrand Russ Funeral Home, (715) 365-4343, is assisting the family with arrangements. All are invited to sign the guest book at

Pat, Dodi and Sue,
So sorry to read about your mom's passing. She was such a beautiful person and loved by many. Our hearts and prayers are with you at this time.
Paul (my son) and Gina are living in your old house on Vaugh St. and so many times I think of all of you when I visit them. We are in Florida and would like to have been there to see all of you and your families. Lynn
