John "Jack" Mangerson
John "Jack" Mangerson, age 76, of Rhinelander, died on Dec. 13, 2012, at the Alice Haus in Rhinelander, with his family at his side. Jack was born on June 26, 1936, in Rhinelander, to Carl and Alice (Skott) Mangerson. He attended schools here, graduating from Rhinelander High School in 1956. He then served in the U.S. Army from 1956 until his honorable discharge in 1958. He was stationed in Chicago, Okinawa and finally Korea. He married Jean Bowman on April 25, 1959, in Rhinelander, and together they enjoyed 53 years of marriage.
Jack was first employed by the Rhinelander Paper Company and then went to work for Daniels Pkg/Printpack. He retired from Printpack in 1996, after 35 years of service. Jack was a patriot and proud of being a lifelong resident of Rhinelander. He was a Life Scout in the Boy Scouts and an accomplished amatuer radio operator. He was an advanced class operator who had worked in every county of the U.S. and 100 different countries, for which he recieved the prestigous DXCC award.
Jack was a loving husband to his wife, Jean, a loving father to his four daughters, Tammy (Dave Oliver) Wendt of West Chicago, Ill., Kelly (Rob) Bramm of Rhinelander, Lauri (Darrell )Mussatti of Franklin, and Tracie (Jay) Pettit of Winneconne; a loving grandfather to Richard (Colleen), Alex, Hope, Jessica (Scott), Rebbeca, Megann, Elizabeth and William; his great-grandchildren, Jackson, Nicholas, Kaylynn and Chelsea; and a loving brother, to Carl of Greenfield, and Judson (Janet) of Rhinelander.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers, Charles and Walter.
A memorial is being established in Jack's name and can be directed to his family. Funeral services for Jack were held on Monday, Dec. 17, 2012, at 11 a.m. at the Carlson Funeral Home. Visitation was held from 9 a.m. until just prior to the services on Monday at the Carlson Funeral Home. Interment is in the Forest Home Cemetery. The Carlson Funeral Home, (715) 369-1414/www.carlsonfh.com, is handling the arrangements for the Mangerson family.

I used to deliver newspapers to Jack's house when he lived on Highview Parkway. I was interested in ham radio and so Jack would invite me in taught me a bit about Morse Code and the electronics of the day (pre-transistor days).
He was a nice guy and a real gentleman.
