Barbara A. Rhode
Barbara A. Rhode, age 84 of the Town of Pine Lake, passed away Friday, Sept. 21, 2018 at her residence with her family by her side. Barb was born in Chicago on Dec. 27, 1933, the daughter of Hugh and Theresa (Bissonett) Martin. She lived in Chicago until the marriage to her husband Richard W. Rhode which occurred in Rhinelander on Sept. 6, 1952.
Barb was employed by the Rhinelander Daily News, Allen Bradley and by the Claridge Motor Inn. But most of all Barb enjoyed being a wife and mother to her seven children. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church.
Barb was an avid bowler in her younger years. She also loved to play bingo with her friends at the casinos in Mole Lake and Lac du Flambeau.
She will be remembered for the love she gave to her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren and will also be remembered for how she always looked forward to Thanksgiving and the whole family gathering together. She will be dearly missed by her children: Pat (Sam) Soper of Eau Claire, Pam (Doug) Reading of Milwaukee, Kathy (Mike) Monien of Wausau, Bobby Rhode, Ruth Rhode (David Kleinschmidt), Virg Rhode Rude and Rich Rhode, all of Rhinelander; 12 grandchildren,13 great-grandchildren, one brother-in-law, Jerry Connell, and her four-legged companion, Dusty. Also surviving are nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Hugh and Theresa Martin; husband, Richard William Rhode; one son, Larry Eugene Rhode at birth; brothers, Buck (Eleanor) Martin and Eugene (Phyllis) Martin and two sisters, Jean Connell and Gay Flag.
The visitation for Barb will be held on Saturday, Oct. 13, 2018 at the Hildebrand Funeral Home from 11 a.m. until the 12:30 p.m. memorial service with Dn. Ron Bosi officiating. Immediately following the memorial service a private committal will take place at Nativity of Our Lord Catholic Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in honor of Barb may be given to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, Tennessee, 38105 or to The Children's Miracle Network, 205 West 700 South, Salt Lake City, Utah, 84101. Virgie and Bobbie.. So sorry for the loss of your mom. It's so hard and you will both feel like a fish out of water for some time. It's hard to lose our moms. Hugs to both of you.
