Louis "Lou" W. Norton

Louis "Lou" W. Norton, age 78 of Rhinelander passed away Wednesday, Oct. 3, 2018, following a lengthy illness. He was born July 6, 1940, in Stella, to Daniel and Lois (Dixon) Norton.

Lou attended school and graduated from Rhinelander High School in 1958. In addition to his schooling, Lou worked during his younger years in the Starks potato fields. He married Louise Fish on Dec. 9, 1961, in Rhinelander, and together they would raise their family of four children.

In 1969, Lou joined the Soo Line Railroad where he was employed in various positions for 33 years until his retirement in 2002. Retirement allowed time for Lou to complete many projects at his home and yard which he greatly enjoyed as well as time to travel with Louise visiting National Parks out west. He also enjoyed bird watching, gardening, fishing, the Green Bay Packers and NASCAR.

Despite his health issues, Lou maintained his love for life and fought to enjoy each day. He will be fondly remembered for his sense of humor and will be greatly missed by those who knew and loved him.

Lou is survived by his wife, Louise Norton of Rhinelander; his four children, Lisa Norton of Rhinelander, Tammy (Craig) Lindberg of Harshaw, Kevin Norton of Rhinelander, and Heather Norton of Rhinelander: five grandchildren, Eric Lindberg, Josh (Amanda) Norton, Samantha (Megan) Lindberg, Tyler Norton, and Cassidy Norton; a great-grandson, Gage Lindberg; and a brother, Omer (Eunice) Norton of Rhinelander. He is further survived by other relatives and many friends.

Lou was preceded in death by his parents.

Visitation for Lou will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 7, 2018, at the Carlson Funeral Home (715-369-1414 /

In lieu of other expressions of sympathy, a memorial in Lou's name will be established for the benefit of Wild Instincts Rehab Center. Contributions may be directed in care of his family.
